The Service Technician is responsible for performing vehicle repair and maintenance work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards. They will also oversee the work of any apprentice technician assigned to them.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties as assigned)
• Receive repair orders from Team Leader and take to stall area.
• Perform work as outlined in repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform repair.
• Communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by the customer.
• Examine the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
• Advise service advisor and/or Team Leader immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
• Document work performed.
• Road-test vehicle when required or refer to the Team Leader, keeping in mind that the customer’s vehicle should not be used for personal errands.
• Supervise the work of any apprentice as assigned.
• Attend factory-sponsored training classes.
• Keep abreast of factory technical bulletins.
• Ensure that customers’ cars are kept clean.
• Keep the shop area neat and be able to always account for all dealership-owned tools. Return special tools to tool kit in tool room.
• Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations, such as those governing the disposal of hazardous waste.
• Be familiar with MSDS location and information. Must wear and/or use all provided protective items, including eye protection, guards, etc.
• Road test vehicle to quality check work performed as necessary.
• Maintain CSI in top 10% of group.
• Adhere to dealership policies and procedures set forth by dealership management and manufacturer specifications.

Required Experience and Education:

• High School Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
• Knowledge of automotive repair and maintenance.
• ASE certification preferred.

Additional Requirements:
• Valid New York State Driver License.

• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information.
• Working knowledge of all aspects of repairs for vehicles.
• Ability to interpret vendor catalogs.
• Must have knowledge of machines, tools including their designs, uses, repairs and maintenance.

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:
• Computer software: Microsoft Office to include Word, and Outlook.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, bend, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
• Will stand and move throughout the dealership facility (lot, showroom, service department, offices) for most of the shift. Will spend time outdoors showing vehicles to prospective customers and to drive vehicles in traffic during test drives
Physical Exertion:
• Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 70 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Light exertion can involve sitting, walking and/or standing most of the time.
Environmental Conditions:
• Work is performed in a dealership service department.
• Occasional weekend and evening hours are required.
• Will be exposed to noise, vibrations, dust, paint, cleaning solutions and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Hazards and Safety Precautions:
• Hazards: Slips, trips and falls, ergonomic injuries, and occasional lifting.
• Safety Precautions: Breaks are encouraged to allow for stretching and training is provided covering slips, trips, and falls, safe lifting and stretching techniques.
