We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Backup & Recovery Manager to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with the Associate Director, IT Disaster Recovery to implement and support a comprehensive disaster recovery program. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in developing and maintaining data recovery strategies, ensuring the resiliency and continuity of critical business functions in the event of a disaster. The Backup & Recovery Specialist will support risk assessments, contribute towards recovery plans, and coordinate data recovery efforts with internal teams and external partners. Excellent problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, and a strong understanding of administrating data backup and recovery technologies are crucial for this position.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Associate Director, IT Disaster Recovery, and cross-functional teams to analyse potential risks, perform data backup and recovery of identified critical IT systems.
Responsible for creating and maintaining backup copies of critical data and applying recovery techniques to restore data to a consistent state after a failure.
Maintain the Data Backup and Retention Policy and ensure it is enforced and audited.
Assist in the development of data recovery for disaster recovery plans, including strategies, procedures, and documentation for emergency response, data backup and restoration, system recovery, and infrastructure continuity.
Support the implementation of robust data backup and recovery systems, ensuring the integrity and availability of critical data during and after a disaster.
Manage regular testing and validation of data recovery procedures suggesting effective areas for improvement.
Provide guidance and training to employees on backup and recovery procedures and best practices to enhance organizational readiness and response capabilities.
Collaborate with IT teams to assess and enhance system recoverability, supporting backup schedules, updating configurations, and monitoring recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs).
Contribute to the identification and evaluation of third-party vendors and service providers for backup and recovery solutions.
Monitor industry developments, emerging technologies, and regulatory requirements related to data recovery, proposing recommendations for program enhancements.
Assist in incident response and recovery efforts during crises, working closely with the Associate Director, IT Disaster Recovery, and other technology teams to minimize business disruption.
Minimum Requirements:
5+ years proven experience in backup and recovery architecture, engineering, or operational domains with a solid understanding of data retention methodologies, techniques, and industry standards.
Critical Skills:
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify potential risks, evaluate business impacts, and provide assurance.
Proficiency in implementing and managing backup and recovery systems, including experience with backup software, storage solutions, and disaster recovery technologies.
Good understanding of IT infrastructure, networks, operating systems, databases, and cloud platforms.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with relevant compliance regulations and frameworks, such as HIPAA or ISO 27001, ISO 22301, ISO 27031.
Availability to respond to emergencies outside regular working hours when necessary.
Additional Skills:
Relevant certifications and coursework are a plus.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to facilitate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
In-depth knowledge of enterprise level backup solutions and their operations.
Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and completeness in procedures.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Systems Engineering, or a related field.

The budgeted salary range for this position in the states of California, Connecticut and New York is $120,000.00 - 160,000.00
