This role has seasoned technical skills with Ellucian Banner products that ensure the reliability, security, and optimal performance of the ERP system which enables seamless operations for the institution’s administrative and academic functions. This position requires limited supervision and is non-supervisory. This position requires 24×7 on-call support.
Key Responsibilities: ERP System Management: Install, configure, and maintain the operation of a group of Ellucian Banner servers to ensure performance and availability of our primary ERP system. Perform regular system upgrades and patches to ensure security and compliance. Monitor and optimize system performance, including response times and resource utilization. Maintain currency for all Banner services via application of upgrades in conjunction with planning by the Application Information Systems (AIS) team and testing by the Banner user community. Maintain 3rd party products integrated with Banner, as assigned. Use utility programs to monitor system performance, specifically Oracle Cloud Control. Database Administration (jointly with the Senior Oracle DBA): Design, implement, and maintain databases associated with the Ellucian ERP system. Ensure data integrity, backup, and recovery procedures are in place and regularly tested. Monitor database performance and perform tuning activities to optimize efficiency. Account set up and access rights (jointly with the Account Management group and Banner data owners). Security and Compliance: Implement and manage security protocols to protect sensitive data within the ERP system and databases. Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and institutional policies. Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify and mitigate potential security risks. Responsible for all Oracle security configuration in Banner and Banner-related databases. Support and Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to users, including troubleshooting system and database issues. Collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical problems. Develop and maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Trouble shoot Banner and Oracle errors reported by the Banner user community (in conjunction with Administrative Information Systems analysts). Test, correct errors, and apply changes to Banner servers and services (jointly with the Banner Admin user community where applicable). Provide support to AIS programmer/analysts regarding the Banner code base, job submission, change control, error resolution, security, upgrade planning, etc. Data Integration and Reporting: Support data integration between the Ellucian ERP system and other institutional systems. Develop and maintain reports and queries to meet the needs of various departments. Project Management and Collaboration: Participate in projects related to system upgrades, new implementations, and other initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, academic departments, and administrative offices. Work directly with consultants and technicians from vendor companies. Provide training and support to end-users as needed. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 7 years of experience in ERP system administration, preferably with Ellucian products (Banner, Colleague, etc.). Minimum of 7 years of experience in database administration, including SQL and Oracle databases. Minimum 7 years of experience with Ellucian Solution Management, Jenkins, and JAVA. Proficiency in Oracle 19c RDBMS. Proficiency with Tomcat middleware. Proficiency with PL/SQL, SQL*Plus, and Linux Shell. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Able to multi-task yet maintain close attention to detail and timeliness of work production. Able to work in a positive team-oriented manner with a variety of people (students, faculty, staff, administrators, vendors). Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Strong understanding of ERP systems and database management. Familiarity with system security best practices and compliance requirements. Knowledge of higher education business processes and systems. Preferred Qualifications Proficiency with WebLogic middleware. Experience in setting up and maintaining Oracle databases. Familiarity with data maintained by a higher-education ERP. Essential Functions and percent of time: | 25% | Plan, install, maintain, upgrade and administer enterprise database software, databases and database instances. / Install and configure or work with appropriate system administrators, analysts, and/or vendors to install and configure tightly / integrated software when appropriate.
| 25% | Review, assess, plan, execute, and assist in the testing of major database-centric upgrades (e.g., Oracle, Banner ERP) working with Information Services management, systems administrators, applications analysts and administrative offices utilizing a methodology that eliminates or at least minimizes adverse impact to university operations. Address and resolve database access, data quality, and performance issues. Monitor database and system details and implement efficiency improvements. Conduct project management duties such as research, scoping, resource planning, and risk analysis; collaborate with relevant university stakeholders and work with consultants and technicians from vendor companies.
| 15% | Monitor and manage databases and when appropriate any related application servers to optimize performance and resource use. Develop and implement procedures to ensure the accuracy, accessibility, and responsiveness of the university’s enterprise databases. Develop appropriate strategies for and provide backup and recovery of enterprise databases and when appropriate related tightly integrated platforms. Identify and prioritize system functions required to promote continuity and availability of critical business processes, enabling prompt recovery in case of system failure.
| 15% | Directly manage and administer secured access to enterprise data using Banner ERP application security and Oracle database security in conjunction with authorization by data owners in the administrative departments. Provide information on enterprise data/database access to internal and external auditors at their request. Ensure security policies and procedures are implemented and enforced to protect sensitive data stored in the databases; monitors database access and ensures compliance with security standards and regulations. Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, procedures, and operational guidelines.
| 15% | Provide performance tuning and problem resolution support, including database or record recovery of enterprise databases and the application server environment, to application developers/analysts, the CaTS Help Desk, and ERP users. Recommend and socialize best practices, standards, and policies for high-quality enterprise applications.
| 5% | Maintain a high level of technical expertise and stays abreast of current and developing trends in business analytics, database administration and management, and information and instructional technology. The role may involve collaboration with remote teams and support for users in different time zones.
