Responsibilities

The Clinical Coordinator serves as a clinical expert to the patient and clinical staff. Ensures efficient medical management
of patients by expediting communication with physicians, patients and clinical staff. This responsibility includes
enhancement of customer satisfaction through patient/family teaching of clinical tests/procedures and appropriate
utilization of the Health Center’s resources to optimize patient care. Coordinator serves to facilitate appropriate patient
flow through the weight management bariatric surgery process. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner
consistent with our mission and values. BSN preferred.

1) Appropriately facilitates the patient through the weight management program to include the pre-surgical phase.
• Arranges/schedules all outpatient testing requirements
2) Acts as a resource to patient and appropriate staff regarding insurance requirements for completion of bariatric
surgery process
• Completes initial inquiry for insurance benefits
• Obtains and communicates medical policy requirements that are patient-specific
• Completes pre-authorization procedures for insurance when required
• Keeps patients updated through process

• Schedules support group meetings
• Notifies bariatric patient population of planned support groups or change
4) Reviews utilization of tests/procedures to minimize patient costs and eliminate duplication of tests/procedures.
5) Close collaborative relationship with medical staff and ancillary departments to ensure efficient medical
management.
6) Serves as mentor/teacher for nursing staff regarding the bariatric patient.
• Responsive to questions from clinical staff regarding care of the bariatric patient.
7) Facilitates continued growth of the bariatric surgery program.


Qualifications

Required:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. 

Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience in an acute setting.

Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse license
BLS required within 30 days
ACLS required within 6 months
