The associate spends approximately 30 minutes of each hour in the basement area keeping the dryer equipment clear of clumps and fines.

There are 4 dryers in the basement. Each dryer has barrels on wheels that fill up with kibble (also referred to as ‘fines’) while the dryers are running. At 50% full they weigh an average of 45 pounds.

Associate is responsible for emptying the barrels before they are ¾ full. The barrels cannot be allowed to fill completely as this clogs and backs the system up which greatly increases likelihood of damaging the conveyance system as well as when the equipment overfills this increases the risk of micro in our finished product.

The associate continuously walks the floor checking fines levels in the barrels. When the barrels get close to ½ full the associate pushes the rolling trash barrel to a dumping machine. They will secure the barrel into the machine, close and latch the gate. Once secured, a button is pushed and the machine automatically dumps the contents.

When the cycle is complete the associate removes the barrel from the apparatus and rolls it back across the basement floor to its original position. They then move on to the next dryer.

There are approximately 10 barrels for each of 4 dryers (40). Once the process is completed for each dryer they begin again. This associate can also be called to support the operations/production area. In the Packaging Hall they pick up and try to stay ahead of the messes in the production areas.

They empty trash cans, pick up and load recycle barrels. (Plastic, cardboard, paper).
