Barrick - Senior Tax Manager

Position Description:

The Senior Tax Manager will work within the Tax Department at the Barrick North America office in Salt Lake City, Utah and will report to the Senior Tax Director of North America. The primary purpose of this position is to review and support country teams on tax provision calculations and disclosures, improve the automation of tax processes across the group, ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations on all return filings, including transfer pricing documentation, and support the Tax Director on group consolidation and process improvements in Toronto. 

 

Responsibilities:

Prepare the quarterly tax provisions for the entities within the United States, including the Nevada Gold Mines partnership, return to provision true-ups, and preparation of associated journal entries. Prepare and/or review various workpapers and supporting detail for the year-end tax provision, including preparation of the rate reconciliation, deferred tax roll-forward and proof, tax account reconciliations, and supporting schedules and journal entries.    Work directly with external auditors to provide detail, explanations, and walkthroughs of the tax provision workpapers and support Prepare the monthly tax forecast reports and upload to SAP through the OneStream tool Champion the enhancements for automation within the OneSource Tax Provision (OTP) software and improving its functionality within the tax provision workpapers, including bridge imports, adding push & pull functionality between workpapers and OTP, payable and journal entry modules, deferred tax calculations, and an automated rate reconciliation.  Assist with the preparation and/or review of the entity income tax return workpapers, including the management of the entity consolidation and partnership flow-through processes. Assist with the preparation and/or review of the U.S. federal and state income tax return forms using OneSource Income Tax.  Prepare cash tax forecasts, budget tax expense and budget cash tax payments, and Life Of Mine (LOM) tax calculations for the United States Assist with the Tax Department’s Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404 compliance and documentation  Assist the Tax and Treasury groups in tax efficient movement of cash & dividends through the U.S. entities Provide support for tax planning projects Assist with the preparation of the annual budget for the Salt Lake City office and Tax Department  Assist with the Nevada Gold Mines property tax compliance and work with external providers on projects Engage with and support the Finance Teams at the Nevada business offices in Elko and Henderson on various projects 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required (Master’s degree in Accounting, Tax emphasis preferred)  Minimum of ten years of related tax experience in publicly traded corporation and/or public accounting (big 4 preferred) Experience with preparing and reviewing US consolidated corporation federal and state tax workpapers and returns is required.  Strong knowledge of and significant experience with quarterly and annual tax provision preparation and review is required. Strong communication/interpersonal skills required to function as part of a team with the ability to also work independently with limited supervision is required. Self-motivated with a sense of urgency and responsibility to contribute, effectively manage projects, and ability to multi-task and work under various deadlines is required. Strong accounting abilities and experience with pulling and analyzing data is required. Acute attention to detail, excellent time management, and organizational skills is required. Growth mindset with the ability to learn, change, and adapt quickly is required. Experience with and an understanding of OneSource Income Tax, OneSource Tax Provision, BNA Fixed Assets software and SAP ERP preferred. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is preferred Tax experience within the mining industry is preferred
