Why Join Us? + Make a Difference:Play a crucial role in protecting and enhancing firefighter health and safety. + Leadership Opportunity: Serve at a senior command level, influencing department policies and decision-making. + Collaborative Environment:Work alongside dedicated professionals in a team-driven fire and rescue system. + Competitive Compensation: Additional initiative for Advanced EMT, EMT-I, and Paramedic certifications. + AEMT: +$4,500/year + EMT-I: +$6,500/year + Paramedic: +$9,000/year Essential Functions What You’ll Do: Key Responsibilities As a Battalion Chief - Health & Safety, you will: + Oversee and administer the department’s Health and Safety Program, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and industry standards. + Serve as the Lead Health and Safety Officer (HSO) and Incident Safety Officer (ISO), providing guidance and leadership on all safety-related matters. + Evaluate and maintain the readiness of operational resources, ensuring personnel are adequately equipped and prepared for emergency situations. + Conduct investigations into health, safety, and wellness concerns, implementing corrective measures where necessary. + Develop and manage budgetary recommendations for health and safety initiatives, ensuring financial efficiency and effectiveness. + Facilitate training programs in collaboration with the Training Division to enhance health, safety, and wellness education for personnel. Typical Qualifications What We’re Looking For: + Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have held it for a minimum of 2 years. + Virginia Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (Vehicle Class 1, 2, and 3) certification. + Fire Officer III certification or higher through Virginia, NBFSPQ, and/or IFSAC. + Fire Instructor I and II certifications through Virginia, NBFSPQ, and/or IFSAC. + Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certification. + Driver/Operator – Pumper certification through Virginia, NBFSPQ, and/or IFSAC. + Virginia Emergency Medical Technician (or higher) certification.
