Overview We at Fairview Health Services are looking for a dedicated Behavioral Assistant to join our team at the University of Minnesota Emergency Department! This position will be working 60 hours every two weeks - Days - 12 hour shifts 7am-7pm with every 3rd weekend rotation. Located at University of MN Medical Center, West Bank Campus in Minneapolis, MN. The starting base rate of pay for the Behavioral Assistant role is $21.00 Candidates with experience may be brought in at a higher rate of pay. As a member of the interdependent care team led by a designated Registered Nurse. Individuals in this role are responsible for assisting the nursing staff in maintaining a safe and healing environment in the inpatient setting. The Behavioral Assistant responds to patient needs, supplies to efficient unit operations and observes patients as delegated by, and under the supervision of, the Registered Nurse. Participates in unit specific routines as assigned to support the care of patients including: Patient accountability rounds Patient searches on admission; listing and storing belongings Setting up and supervising meals Vital signs and weights Supervising visiting hours Communicating needed information to patients, family members, and fellow staff Performs other responsibilities as needed Responds and participates in trained de-escalation techniques and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or Basic Life Support situations. Transports patients, equipment and supplies. Documents according to unit/policy requirements. Conducts environmental safety checks observing for broken equipment, security of windows, door locks, etc. Qualifications Qualifications: Two year college equivalent in human services field or 2-3 years of experience with direct patient care in a behavioral health setting. Certification - Basic Life Support Certification Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s degree Experience - 6 – 12 months experience within mental health setting preferred.
