Behavioral Health Assistant-Residential

Job Purpose: 

This is a technical position that involves the direct care of adults with severe and persistent mental illness. This position assists resident’s in attending their scheduled community appointments, advocates on the residents' behalf during appointments, assists residents in meeting their daily living needs, ensures a standard of cleanliness in the resident’s living environment, and facilitates recreation and socialization among residents and within the community.

 

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to a Residential Clinical Supervisor.  This position has no direct reports.

 

Essential Job Functions:

Provides transportation for residents to appointments, community outings, personal needs shopping, etc. as needed. Advocates for residents during appointments as needed, to ensure the resident’s needs are met. Assists consumers in learning independent living skills, which are defined in the resident’s Individual Service Plan. (i.e. shopping, community safety, laundry, housekeeping, cooking, time and money management.). As well as encouraging management of symptoms through support services and education.  Documents resident appointment summaries and behaviors in their progress notes. Coordinating client care, doctor recommendations, and doctor orders with Residential Coordinator and WHCG RN. Monitors consumer medication adherence as directed by their physician. Reports to Residential Clinical Supervisor, WHCG RN, or physician any changes in client behavior and functioning. Ensures that residents maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene. Ensures that the house is clean at all times and complies with DHS 83 CBRF regulations.   Completes monthly activity calendars and prepares materials for each assigned CBRF including resident and BHT staff feedback.  Provides direct care (BHT) coverage in the CBRF during BHT vacancies or PTO.  Assists with needed supply/medication deliveries to the CBRF’s. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training seminars and conferences as required. Attends required annual CBRF trainings and is able to successfully pass competency testing. Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures and DHS 83 rules.
