We are hiring a full-time Behavioral Health Navigator I to support UPMC Children’s Hospital.
The Behavioral Health Navigator I is responsible for the assessment and navigation of patients and families in collaboration with attending psychiatrists and other staff within UPMC Children’s Hospital. The incumbent will develop initial treatment plan to facilitate disposition planning and assists with bed placement or disposition planning. They will have the ability to identify acuity level of patient and facilitate the flow of information to promote effective communication regarding the patient care and patient operations and disposition.
The shifts for this position will be primarily evenings, with two 12-hour and two 8-hour shifts, as well as rotating weekends. The incumbent will work in the Emergency Department as well as other medical units in the hospital.
Responsibilities:
Complete all required documentation and paperwork, including psychiatric evaluations and commitment paperwork. Utilize DSMV for provisional diagnoses and demonstrate knowledge of mental health laws. Obtain insurance authorizations and participate in interdisciplinary activities. Maintain competency and use up-to-date technology for patient care. Handle a high volume of calls and efficiently meet caller needs. Follow outpatient scheduling and referral documentation guidelines. Respond quickly to appointment or inpatient admission requests. Review and summarize patient information for behavioral health unit admissions. Present cases verbally to physicians and others. Demonstrate triage and assessment skills for medical necessity or appropriate outpatient clinics. Provide accurate, timely information to coworkers, physicians, and outside agencies. Access social systems and provide resource-specific information to patients and families.
