The Urgent Care Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (UC PMHNP) provides direct care to referred pediatric and adult patients in the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Service (BHUCS) and affiliated locations at EBNHC including the Satellite Emergency Facility (SEF). The UC PMHNP is responsible for providing quality patient care under the guidance of the Medical Director of the Urgent Care and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. The UC PMHNP reports to the Medical Director of the BH UC or designee.The UC PMHNP will provide emergency psychopharmacologic evaluations and prescriptions to adults and children presenting to the BHUCS in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
This position is part of a team that staffs the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Service (BHUCS) 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and as such will include shifts that cover that time frame.
Establishes rapport and develops therapeutic relationships with patients of diverse backgrounds and varying levels of motivation for change.
Writes up and presents completed emergency assessments for clinical disposition in a clear and organized manner.
Evaluates the psychopharmacologic needs of the BH UCS patients and provides short-term prescriptions when necessary.
Demonstrates knowledge of the full range of community resources to property guide and direct patients.
Provides consultation to and coordinates patient care with multidisciplinary BHUCS staff and the staff of the Satellite Emergency Facility..
Conducts a focused physical exam when necessary.
Orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests, radiologic tests and EKGs with the support of the SEF.
Demonstrates the capacity to diagnose and effectively treat a range of behavioral health conditions: anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders and moderate-severe personality disorders.
Demonstrates excellent, advanced phone assessment/triage skills, assigning the appropriate level of priority at all times.
Performs advanced, high-quality, thorough psychosocial evaluations that contains data in support of the diagnosis, findings, recommendations and plans.
May obtain X waiver and prescribe medications to assist with substance use recovery.
Provides consultation, training and supervision to departmental staff as well as interns and PMHNP residents.
