Summary:

We are looking for a Technical Instructor I/Consultant Medical- Subject Matter Expert I (Behavioral Health) to support the instruction of the Behavioral Health Specialist Program. The Behavioral Health Specialist course is designed to provide the student with entry level knowledge, skills, and communication techniques required to assess/evaluate military personnel and their family members in need of behavioral health care; and provide communication techniques in the areas of human development, psychopathological disorders, psychological testing, consultation, interviewing, and counseling. The course combines didactic classroom instruction, closely supervised practical exercises, and an intensive closely supervised clinical practicum. Emphasis is on communication skills, psychological testing, assessment procedures, interviewing and counseling approaches.

 

Behavioral Health subject matter expert (SME) support and training services. Perform the duties and tasks of an Instructor and subject matter expert (SME) for the Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care Courses (5H-F4/302-F4- Individual; 5H-F5/302-F5- group; and 5H-F9- Clinical Consultant Medical Review Officer) and behavioral health track phase of professional military education courses (Basic Officer Leader Course – BH Track; Advanced Leader Course – BH- Track; Combat Paramedic – BH track; Brigade Health Care Leaders – BH track) in a manner that establishes and maintains a good learning and working environment, including assisting in developing and revising of any/all necessary instructional materials, instructing students, administering the course, in concert and coordination with Government instructors (i.e. training team), and according to criteria and guidance established by the Army Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCOE) and Course Manager. Deliverables: student, course and/or instructor evaluations.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Assist in development and updating instructional materials (such as lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations) incorporating current technical subject matter, DoD doctrine, policies, guidelines, lessons learned, and current work practices into the instructional materials and training program in accordance with the Program of Instruction, policies, and guidelines provided. Deliverables: lesson plans, student notes with illustrations, visual aids, and examinations, Facilitator Guides, Student Guides, Course materials – PPT, Adjunctive references for each respective course.Conduct classroom instruction (i.e., teach) of any/all lesson topics in the courses using the approved course materials and methods that are likely to ensure that students meet established learning objectives. Prepare cases, set up, and administer/conduct practical exercises. Assist in development, set up, administer, and grade written and practical examinations as well as perform appropriate statistical analysis on exam results in accordance with the policies and guidelines provided. Instruction may be conducted in a virtual environment over the internet using programs such as Blackboard, Microsoft TEAMS, ZOOM, or other virtual enhancement programs. This may require monitoring and responding to questions or message board information/requests. Deliverables: student, course and/or instructor evaluations.Provide SME support/technical support:
Provide SME support to Computer-/Web-Based Component of the course. instructional designers and programmers developing interactive multimedia for Phase 1 of this course. This will take approximately 12% of non-podium time.Provide SME/scientific technical support that is technically accurate, insightful, and creative; contribute to technical scientific discussions in a manner that is positive contribution to group/teamwork.Perform course administrative functions including maintaining student and course administrative records, organizing training materials, and identifying supply needs.Perform typical training logistics activities such as using supplies and equipment in accordance with Plan of Instruction, maintaining the order and cleanliness of the training facility as needed, and assisting with setting up and moving furniture and equipment within the facility/course location.Perform course instruction for CONUS and OCONUS Mobile Training Teams (MTTs) as directed by TRADOC and/or MEDCoE taskings. “On-site” MTTs will include travel expenditures and temporary duty compensation for the duration of course execution (typically 10 instructional days coinciding with an 80-hour course) and 2 travel days. Qualifications

Necessary Skills and Knowledge:

Able to stand and walk around classroom/laboratory for 2 hours continuously and intermittently for 2 hours.Possess excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills and be capable of learning and utilizing current and emerging military and commercial technology.Must have knowledge of instructional techniques and training methodologies to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise training programs.Expertise utilizing a variety of instructional technologies, training equipment, and teaching methods to incorporate the principles of adult learning into teaching practice.Be able to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Two years’ experience in full-time post-licensure clinical practice as a social worker.A license or be otherwise regulated in that state or jurisdiction as an independent or clinical social worker (highest level of licensure for the respective jurisdiction.)Must hold master's degree in social work from an accredited college or university.Instructor must be licensed clinical social worker in any state or jurisdiction recognized by the federal government.Must be able to successfully pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

A license chemical dependency counseling (LCDC) or master addictions counselor (MAC) is highly desired. Prior clinical experience in the treatment of substance abuse is highly desired. Prior clinical experience evaluating and treating military populations is highly desired. Prior experience with developing combat operational stress control plans and traumatic event management in deployed military settings is highly desired.Preferred a minimum two years of academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds (identified in documented descriptions of roles and responsibilities) that are necessary to meet program objectives and the mission of the institution. Documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of the content delivery method (e.g., distance learning). Evidence of expertise in teaching assignments might include documentation of continuing professional development, relevant experience, faculty development plan reflecting acquisition of new content, incorporation of feedback from course evaluations, and other sources.
