**Behavioral Health Tech - Residential** **Job Details** **Job Location** WHCG - Milwaukee, WI **Job Shift** 1st Shift **Description** **_Job Purpose_** : This is a technical position that involves the direct care of adults with severe and persistent mental illness. This position helps provide a homelike environment, which enables residents to learn and develop daily living skills as well as socialization and leisure skills. **_Essential Job Functions_** **:** 1. Assists consumers in learning independent living skills, which are defined in the resident’s Individual Service Plan. (i.e. laundry, housekeeping, cooking, time and money management.). As well as encouraging management of symptoms through support services and education. 2. Participates in ensuring that nutritious community meals are planned, prepared and served within the home, involving training residents in food preparation serving and storage. 3. Monitors consumer medication adherence as directed by their physician. 4. Reports to Residential Clinical Supervisor, WHCG RN, or physician any changes in client behavior and functioning. 5. Ensures that residents maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene. 6. Ensures that resident’s leave for their day program, job or school appropriately groomed. Facilitate transportation as necessary. 7. Ensures that the house is clean at all times and complies with DHS 83 CBRF regulations. 8. Ensures that all physical repairs are reported to the Property Management Department. 9. Performs room, water, temperature or any other daily weekly monitoring that is assigned by the Residential Operations Supervisor including labeling and putting away the weekly grocery order. 10. Practices emergency evacuation procedures and performs fire alarm system checks with residents and documents these drills. 11. Documents residents’ daily behavior and routine in the resident daily log consistent with their Individualized Service Plan goals. 12. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training seminars and conferences as required. 13. Attends required annual CBRF trainings and is able to successfully pass competency testing. 14. Occasional travel is required for this position may travel to between one or more group homes, to the community for shopping or for client needs, and may at times be assigned to transport clients to various, pre-approved, destinations. 15. Reports for work on time and adheres to WHCG Attendance Policy. 16. Understands and adheres to established policies and procedures and DHS 83 rules. 17. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing is required. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in Spanish, both orally and in writing is desirable. **Qualifications** **_Required Technical Skills, Experience, Education, and Credentials_** **:** 1. High School Diploma/GED is required 2. Minimum of 1 years’ experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is highly desirable. 3. Must be able to function with minimum supervision. 4. Professional workplace appearance and conduct; friendliness and courtesy to consumers, coworkers and vendors. 5. Effectively communicates and develops good working relationships with co-workers. 6. Reliability in reporting to work regularly and on time. 7. Must possess good communication, listening, writing and organizational skills. 8. Must complete CBRF training program as outlined by DHS 83. 9. Must be able to use appliances such as stove, microwave, washer/dryer, etc. 10. Must be able to read the label on medicine bottles and understand the directions on the labels. 11. Must be able to clean up bloody/body fluid spills in accordance with OSHA and agency policies. 12. Must be able to evacuate residents in two minutes or less and assist residents in evacuation as dictated by DHS 83. 13. Motor vehicle record acceptable to program and/ or contractual requirements. 14. A valid Wisconsin driver's license, and automobile insurance with minimum limits of $50,000/$100,000 bodily injury and $10,000 property damage. 15. Access to a personal vehicle. **_Work Environment and Physical Requirements_** The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee may experience or must do to successfully perform the essential functions of the job: 1. Work is performed largely in a group home setting. Group homes are open 24 hours per day 7 days a week. 2. Hours of work will vary and will be set in conjunction with the designated supervisor. Management has a right to move staff to a group home that is not their home location, if they are properly trained, for emergency staffing needs. 3. Must be able to communicate complex thoughts and instructions both in writing and verbally. 4. This position is responsible for the supervision and safety of consumers in both normal program settings as well as a variety of settings in the community. As such, this position must be able to observe consumer activities, detect areas of danger, distinguish when consumers who are non-communicative are in need of personal cares, and converse clearly with consumers and other people in the community on a frequent basis. 5. Ability to perform well in a fast paced work environment. 6. On occasion must be able to push/pull/lift/move objects weighting at least 50 pounds. 7. This position may work in a variety of indoor and outdoor work environments which may include, various outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, and fluctuating temperatures and the occasional use of stairs. _This is a general outline of the essential functions of this position and shall not be construed as an all-inclusive description of all work requirements and responsibilities that may be inherent in this position.
