What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Behavioral Neuroscience Technician to provide support for the National Institute on Aging (NIA) Intramural Research Program (IRP) Laboratory of Neuroscience, Neurocognitive Aging Section (NAS). The scope of function will include tasks such as behavioral testing of rats, biological sample acquisition, animal colony management, data analysis and quality control, validation of experimental procedures, and other activities as required. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Baltimore, MD.  

Perform rat behavioral phenotyping, including, but not limited to, water maze, novel odor recognition, social memory assessment.Perform biological sample collection, preparation, and storage.Analyze data generated from behavioral phenotyping and maintain databases of rodent colonies, generated data, and bio samples.Support design-based quantitative morphometric studies using stereological methods.Perform a variety of specialized tissue fixation, embedding, sectioning and staining techniques.Maintain animal colonies and perform simple surgeries such as assisting with or performing animal survival surgery (including intraspinal injections), handling, dissecting, or euthanizing the animals.Perform analysis of animal tissues; prepare frozen slices and paraffin sections, appropriately stained to demonstrate normal and abnormal structures.Work with staff to process tissue for immunohistochemistry.Collect, review, research, and analyze large datasets; perform experiments, utilizing various statistical applications and methods; and interpret data, assemble data into figures, and enter data into a database.Select, devise, plan, and execute the most appropriate experiments for analysis and interpretation of data, for developing strategies, for pursuing significant observances, and for ensuring accuracy of data.Document information on procedures, modifications, and methods for input into final publication and presentations of findings at meetings.


What You Will Need:

Bachelor’s DegreeAt least 1 year of rat handling experienceBe familiar with diagnostic or behavioral equipment.Extensive rat handling experienceExperience in biological sample collection, preparation, or storageRat behavioral phenotyping experienceMS Office


What Would Be Nice To Have:

Preferred areas of study include Neuroscience, Psychology or Cognitive Science and BiopsychologyExperience with data analytics would be beneficial
