BRU Clinicians will provide in person crisis intervention counseling with an assessment of the individual’s need/functioning in Orange County. This program is in partnership with Orange County Sheriff’s Office, providing co-responder deputy/clinician teams in the Orange County community. The deputy/clinician teams respond to mental health calls through 911 dispatch. Teams conduct follow up in the community using a specialized system designed to track calls completed outside of standard BRU hours. The BRU provides services primarily for adults, but calls can include response to children and adolescents when appropriate. The BRU teams work with a highly diverse population including veterans, homeless individuals, and individuals diagnosed with mental health and substance abuse disorders in the community.
The crisis intervention will include stabilizing the situation through communication skills, parenting skills, relationship building, behavioral techniques, grief counseling, interviewing of family members, stress management techniques, etc. Based on the clinician’s assessment, individualized referral recommendations will be provided to assist individuals/families with the identified need. Services provided under this program will include phone contact and assessment, crisis response, face-to-face crisis assessment, crisis stabilization, short-term intervention including psychotherapy, referral, and connection to service providers. The BRU Clinicians work to empower the individual and family, working in tandem to generate solutions, and develop strategies that help establish realistic goals. BRU Clinician responsibilities include:
Conducting crisis intervention and safety planning to assist the individual in overcoming the difficulties that led to the crisis and conducting ongoing assessment of need.Collaborating with other service providers in the community to help establish needed services for the individual and the family.Providing education to the individual’s family and significant others regarding mental illness and how to support the individual.Providing flexible therapeutic and follow-up services with an interactive approach, and documenting therapeutic interventions in the client’s records in a timely manner.Working independently as well as in a team setting during the treatment process. Ensuring provision and coordination of services and appropriate discharge planning for all clients.Collaborate with other service providers in the community to assist with monthly Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputies and staff.Position Details:
Pay Range: Ranges $55,500 - $63,270 / annual (non-licensed).
Ranges $58,500 - $66,690 / annual (licensed).
Salary is based on relevant education and experience.
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 4-10hr days and there is a rotating schedule to include 8am-6pm, 9am-7pm, and 10am-8pm.

QualificationsEducation:
Master's degree in the field of counseling, social work, psychology. requiredTwo years' experience working directly with children and families. Preferred Experience working with homeless, veteran, substance use and Severe and Persistently Mentally ill populations. Preferred
