About The Position

The Benefits Compliance and Legal Analyst provides analysis of employee benefits plans and issues and drafts and maintains legal documents as they relate to benefits. This position works to ensure that Ameren is compliant with all applicable ERISA and Internal Revenue Code requirements, including IRS and DOL guidance relating to employee benefits matters. The Benefits Compliance and Legal Analyst ensures that all pension and welfare plan communications are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

                                                                                                                        

Key responsibilities include:

·Conduct legal analysis of plan documents in support of Ameren's various pension and welfare plans ensuring compliance with law, including ERISA and all applicable regulations ·Research law, including under case law, ERISA, and the Internal Revenue Code, and draft documents, correspondence and contracts in connection with benefits programs Review and draft plan documents and related communications, including plan amendments, SPDs, SMMs, notices, and administration forms in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulationsMaintain plan documents and amendments for the Legal and Human Resources departmentsResearch and collect data that aids in legal consultation to Ameren's Total Rewards and Treasury teams for the preparation of Forms 5500 and plan financial statements, including ensuring timely filing and coordinating with internal stakeholders and external vendorsPrepare IRS and DOL filings ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulationsCollaborate with Total Rewards in planning and drafting committee agenda, minutes, resolutions, charters, policies, claims and appeals, and other decisions and documentsCommunicate with actuaries, attorneys, accountants, Treasury and Human Resources team regarding legal complianceQualifications

Bachelor's degree required with a minimum of five years of relevant experience required; ten years preferred.

Additional qualifications, such as certified employee benefits specialist (CEBS) and law firm or legal department experience preferred. Expertise with employee benefits compliance, including ERISA and the Internal Revenue Code preferred. Strong attention to detail and organizational and communication skills required. Willingness and desire to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
