**We are seeking a full-time Housing Advocate to join our Chicago NYAP team.**
**The person in this role must have the ability to speak, read and write Spanish and English.**
**Compensation: $40k commensurate upon education and experience. Room for growth based on performance.**
**Position Summary:**
Under the general supervision of the Program Director or designee, this position works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families served. This position works closely with NYAP clients and community partners, providing advocacy and support toward the ultimate goal of living safely and successfully in the community.

**Responsibilities:**
The Housing Advocate will perform duties including, but not limited to:
+ Actively supports, represents, and extends the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
+ Actively being the face of the organization in the area of housing resource development.
+ Provides in-home supportive services, community resource referrals, advocacy, and other social service interventions to the clients.
+ Travels daily, to provide community based services to, and on behalf of clients in compliance with organizational, contract, and regulatory requirements.
+ Completes all required documentation in a timely manner.
+ Sources and creates linkage with the community resources to access housing opportunities for clients.
+ Assists clients in finding permanent supported housing in the community.
+ Assists clients in applying for Bridge Subsidy program.
+ Completes housing applications along with client, along with signing of rental lease agreements.
+ Takes clients to view housing options in the community.
+ Assists clients in establishing a housing expenses budget.
+ Assists clients with move-in plan and furnishings of unit plan.
+ Assists clients in purchasing of furnishings for permanent supported housing.
+ Assists clients in setting up utilities for permanent supported housing.
+ Participates in various community events and meetings regarding low income housing and supportive housing options.
+ Completing all other duties assigned by the supervisor.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ **Bachelor's degree in human services with previous community services experience preferred, Associate’s degree required.**
+ **The ability to speak, read and write Spanish and English.**
+ 2 years of work experience working in direct service strongly preferred.
+ Knowledge of Chicagoland affordable housing market options a plus.
+ **Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance, and a good driving record.**
+ A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours in the service of families of origin, and persons served.
+ Capacity to be flexible and responsive to clients served, system partners, and internal customers.
+ Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
+ Demonstrates tolerance and respect for the ideas and actions of others.
+ Capacity to effectively work with and be respectful and sensitive to persons from various cultures, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and racial backgrounds.
+ Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
