Billing And Insurance Analyst
*This position will begin fully onsite in Newport News, VA. Eventually this role will transition to remote after you are fully trained and producing on your own. It's dependent on your performance, some folks go remote after 4 weeks, others it can take 6+ months.* Description The Billing & Insurance Analyst I is responsible for daily operations related to the billing of primary and secondary claims and insurance follow up for their assigned location(s); coordinates with staff to ensure timely billing and follow up for claim denials. The Billing & Insurance Analyst I will ensure all adjustments are minimal and accurate. The analyst will assist with identifying trends, account reconciliation, and answering questions related to billing. + Investigate insurance denials and make necessary corrections to bring claim resolution. + Ensure the correct primary and/ or secondary insurance was billed + Prepare and submit appeals and or medical records to insurance companies + Assist with identifying trends, aberrations and concerns related to billing and payer denials and communicates concerns to management. + Ensure that payments and adjusted are posted per the EOB + Responsible for running detailed A/R reports + Work with the coding team to resolve coding related denials + Respond to correspondences from payers in a timely manner. + Assist patients with phone inquiries related to billing. + All other duties as requested by the Manager. A normal day involves working out of 4 different reports- + Adjustment report- daily report comes in and details the denials posted in the system from the previous day + Aging report - display everything that is outstanding in the insurance AR that may need review (could be repetition from your adjustment and aging report) Monthly report that they will work daily throughout the month + Coding list document - functions similar to Excel (Excel with tasks) you can create tasks and it goes to your email. Use this document to communicate with the coding team. If a coding denial populates to this report they communicate with the coder to review and then take action based on that + Correspondences are being scanned in by one person and it is put on a log and sent to the team daily The Insurance Analysts are responsible for going through these reports daily and following up on the denials. To stay on track they will have to work 50-75 line items per day (you can have 5-10 line items in 1 encounter) *Could have anywhere from 2-8 practices (from specialties to primary care) it depends on the volume of the practice Additional Skills & Qualifications Knowledge of insurance payers, including commercial and government payers. Analytical and problem solving skills to allow efficient resolution of insurance payment issues. Knowledge of electronic health record. Knowledge of insurance follow-up to ensure proper reimbursement. Ability to use website based insurance systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of medical terminology Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with multiple departments. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols. Effective communication. Ability to work independently. Time management skills Critical thinking - thinking outside the box Billing or coding certification would be nice Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $22.00/hr.
