Are you passionate about translating molecular advances into improvements in patient care through Personalized Medicine? The Center for Personalized Medicine at NorthShore University HealthSystem is looking for a PhD bioinformatician to join the bioinformatics team that built Flype (Am J Med Genet C Semin Med Genet. 2021 Mar;187(1):37-47. PMID: 33270363), our software that drives the interpretation and integration of NGS and pharmacogenomic assays to help guide patient care.
We are looking for a recent PhD graduate in bioinformatics, computational biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry with experience in Next Generation Sequencing particularly with the Illumina platform, working in the AWS cloud environment, and a deep knowledge of variant classification and interpretation.
A solid understanding of software development using Python, SQL & APIs as well as experience working in a Linux environment is a plus
Familiarity with Django web development as well as familiarity with NCBI & Ensembl databases, cancer-specific databases, and population-specific databases is a plus.
In addition to technical expertise, we are looking for an individual with a willingness to work in a team environment, leading some projects and contributing to others, as we continue to expand personalized medicine at our institution. The candidate will be encouraged to pursue independent research projects, but the position is primarily designed to contribute to the continued development and enhancement of Flype.
A Brief Overview:
The Bioinformatician position is critical for genomic translational research at NorthShore. This position is responsible for developing the following areas;
(a) Pipelines for Next Generation Sequencing data analysis & interpretation,
(b) Statistical methods for analyzing genetic data, and
(c) Methods for polygenic risk score.
This position is also responsible for preparing peer-review papers and assisting application of grants.
