Summary:
The Bioinformatics Shared Resource role provides cutting-edge computational and systems biology support to the Institute and its NCI-designated Cancer Center. We specialize in omics data analysis, multi-omics data integration, network and pathway analysis. Different levels of data analyses are provided, based on the complexity of researchers’ data sets. This may include automated pipeline-based analyses and customized deep data mining. We are looking for a talented candidate for a Bioinformatics Scientist (applicants with a Ph.D.) or Bioinformatics Specialist (applicants with MS or BS) position in this challenging computational team. The successful candidate should have strong genomics, computational, and statistical skills, great communication and interpersonal skills, and able to independently solve scientific projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyzes, integrates and interprets omics data sets, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) datasets (such as RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq, Exome-seq, DNA-seq), single cell datasets (such as scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq), spatial omics (such as Nanostring DSP and 10X Visium HD), and proteomics datasets.
Implements and executes analysis pipelines and customizes tools for omics data analysis, including scripting, programming, statistical analyses and applying common standard analysis tools and algorithms (R/Bioconductor, Python, etc.) Independently supports and manages multiple parallel projects directed by lab investigators and contributes to the general technical knowledge of researchers and may present findings Manages iLab charging system, tracks project status, and provides monthly reports for iLab projects Evaluates new technologies Provides guidance to lower level staff and other Sanford Burnham Prebys researchersEducation and/or Experience:
Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science or Life Sciences plus three years direct experience (five years’ preferred) or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained required Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or Life Sciences preferredOther Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:
Expert level knowledge of advanced sequencing, array-based technologies and proteomics technologies Proficiency in NGS data analysis including bulk and single cell datasets Ability to mine and interpret publicly available single cell dataset relevant for SBP projects Familiarity with large scale cancer genomics datasets e.g. TCGA, DepMap Strong statistics, machine learning and data mining skills Strong programming skills including Python and/or R Experience with Linux/Unix and high-performance computing environment Superior data visualization skills and ability to generate high quality figures Keep up to date on new developments and technical advances in the fields of bioinformatics, data visualization, genomics and biological fields related to SBP labs Communicate effectively and collaborate well with Principal Investigators and their team members Work independently as well as in a team environment Be responsible and have strong time management skills Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrate professional proficiency in Microsoft OfficeSupervisory Responsibilities:

Compensation:
The expected hiring range for this position is between $80,000 - $90,000/year commensurate with skills and experience.
