The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues.

 

SPA provides critical decision support to enabling and executing a strategy of technological superiority and enabling the delivery and sustainment of secure, resilient, and preeminent capabilities to the warfighter quickly and cost effectively. Our team of experienced military, technical, and operations research analysts is skilled in evaluating military problems, identifying the driving factors, devising innovative approaches, collecting applicable data, developing necessary software tools, and performing thorough and timely assessments to inform technology and acquisition governance decisions to ensure U.S. military forces retain military superiority in the future.

 

SPA has a near-term need for a Biological Material Scientist (SETA) to provide onsite support in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities

The candidate will support the development and management of current and planned programs at the intersection of materials science, synthetic biology, and bioelectronics for DARPA's Biological Technologies Office (BTO). Planned programs aim to develop novel biological and biomimetic materials to support the Department of Defense (DoD). The candidate will apply experience in bioinformatics and computational biology methods as well as materials science to focus on biological and bioinspired materials development, and review and assess proposed materials-related concepts for scientific and technical merit. Apply strong technical writing skills, ability to communicate complex scientific ideas to broad audiences; digest basic and applied research across areas of biology, biochemistry, and materials science; and demonstrate a willingness to explore the scientific literature for emerging technologies and innovations.

Qualifications

Required:

2+ years of experience and a PhD in a field relevant to the support of bioinformatics, materials science, and/or synthetic biology-related programs, with a breadth of expertise to assess technologies across a broad range of applications.Outstanding organization, communication, coordination, and time management skills.Able to work within a multi-disciplinary team and handle a wide variety of tasks, including briefing support, program management, and general administrative actions. Interim DoD Secret clearance.
