The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Biologists conduct fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects and research studies including data collection, analysis and interpretation; develop and implement project proposals and work plans; prepare recommendations; and participate in public relations activities.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation.
The incumbent will be responsible for primarily assisting in the management and recovery of ESA listed Lahontan Cutthrout Trout (LCT) and Bull Trout populations and their habitats in the Humboldt and Reese Management Units (LCT) and the Upper Snake Geographic Management Unit (Bull Trout) by implementing the field work objectives developed in annual work plans. The selected applicant will work closely with fellow biologist staff to implement the management objectives identified in the 2019 Updated Goals and Objectives for the Conservation of Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and 2015 Recovery Plan for the Coterminous United States Population of Bull Trout. Field season is typically from May into November and will require extensive travel and camping in remote locations leading and working with crews of 1-6 seasonal Conservation Aid employees. The selected applicant will also assist regional biologists with sportfish management and native aquatic management as field work needs are identified in annual work programs. This work may include, but is not limited to, surveys on Wildhorse and South Fork Reservoirs, Owyhee River, Bruneau River and Salmon Falls Creek drainages. Duties will also include completing and analyzing fisheries survey data and completing technical reports. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, wildlife management or closely related field; OR graduation from high school and two years of technical wildlife management or fisheries experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and professional experience in conducting research studies; data collection, analysis and interpretation; and development and implementation of project proposals for fisheries, wildlife and/or habitat management projects.
Special Notes
Work may be performed under adverse weather conditions and include extensive walking under difficult conditions in remote and/or primitive locations.
Working on occasional nights and/or weekends may be required.
Special Requirements
Statewide travel and outdoor work is required.
A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
