Summary The direct hire authority for Biologist GS-0401 is being used to fill this position. Salary: $80,665 (Step 01) to $104,861 (Step 10) NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. This is a term appointment not to exceed 13 months with possible extensions up to a total of 10 years without further competition. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Responsibilities As a Biologist within the Fort Collins Science Center, some of your specific duties will include: Act as a liaison between a Department of the Interior bureau - Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, or National Park Service - and a team of researchers at U.S. Geological Survey to support development of a DOI- wide framework for assessing restoration outcomes associated with projects funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Review existing evaluation frameworks, datasets, and scientific literature to identify measures, restoration goals, objectives, evaluation processes, and indicators, working to integrate and help write and develop the restoration framework based up one knowledge of these existing monitoring and evaluation approaches, ensuring efforts are complementary. Provide project management assistance to USGS Effectiveness Framework Core Team, by tracking and recording project progress with bureaus, toward the achievement of goals associated with the restoration outcomes framework, acting as a conduit between the development of the framework and the bureau. Maintain knowledge of current ecological theory for application to landscape-scale field studies with management applications, considering broader synthesis of the understanding of ecological processes in relation to species-habitat relationships, fire and fuels management, invasives species management, vegetation recovery after disturbances, ecological modeling, statistical and empirical modeling, and experimental methods, including GIS, remote sensing, and spatially explicit models. Qualifications Definitions: UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION: A year of undergraduate education is 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours or the equivalent of college study. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite. GRADUATE EDUCATION: In the absence of specific graduate program information, a year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours of graduate level college course work, or the number of credit hours the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full time study. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels. A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. *OR* B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above (24 semester hours or the equivalent in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. Possess 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a Ph. D. or equivalent doctoral degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines. **OR B. Possess one year of specialized experience at or equal to the next lower grade level. Examples of experience at the GS-09 level work may include: 1) participation in the planning and execution of biological studies with limited number of variables; 2) performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; 3) conducting biological studies using established fact finding procedures. For examples 1-3, assignments were made with the objectives, priorities, and deadlines defined. The work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices. Controversial use of approaches or modifications of standard procedures were typically discussed with a designated person before being carried out. **OR C. Possess a combination of graduate level education as described in above, beyond the first two years of progressive graduate study, and appropriate professional experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
