What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for Biologist within the Flow Cytometry Core to provide support services that satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHBLI). The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through support, analysis, and translational research within the Flow Cytometry Core (FACS). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.
Provide operator support for cell sorting and cell analytical assays for the users.Operate, maintain, and calibrate specialized laboratory Flow cytometers for cell sorting and cell analytical assays maintaining a high-level of quality assurance.Perform specialized laboratory techniques in flow cytometry, imaging flow cytometry, cytokine analysis, and immunology to support the scientific research program.Prepare data analysis of flow cytometric data generated on core instruments, prepare summaries of experiments, and contribute to the evaluation and discussion of results.Develop new techniques as needed to answer research questions.Maintain detailed records of laboratory experiments and perform statistical data analysis.Provide training and guidance to students, fellows, and staff in using equipment and laboratory methods.Enforce responsible safe laboratory practices and follow established safety guidelines.Contribute to scientific publications and present new research data at meetings and seminars.Recognize and help to resolve significant issues and keeps supervisor appraised of progress.Attend training sessions for new methodologies and participate in conferences to stay abreast of scientific developments.Work with staff, collaborate with outside researchers, and contribute to positive overall teamwork; teach flow cytometry principles and methodologies.Provide technical expertise for substantial and effective contributions to research through scientific discussions with laboratory staff and collaborators, as well as actively teaching methods at the lab bench.Independently follow written and oral guidance working individually or in a team-oriented environment.
