Overview Under relatively close supervision of the Manager and other more senior technicians, inspect, repair, maintain, and calibrate all types of basic clinical equipment, devices, system, and instruments. Interact on a routine basis with other clinical health providers in the identification of technology-based problems and solution development. Participate in on-the-job training programs regarding technical, administrative, and customer service requirements. The BMET will work toward status of a Sr. BMET by attaining ability to independently complete all assigned tasks and acquire competency on a broader range of more sophisticated clinical devices and systems. Responsibilities Job Description Communicates timely/accurately with customers on tasks, equipment status (waiting for parts, loaner coming in, etc), alternatives for emergencies, and meets developmental/cultural differences. Responds to emergency equipment failures by hospital departments, completes repairs within 24 hours to 5 days based on part availability and helps with after-hours on-call duty. Meets project expectations, communicates statuses and issues with Manager, and schedules third party activities when needed Maintains good personal relationships with co-workers, nursing, professional, clinical, and medical staff, and general public and uses courtesy and integrity in all phone and interpersonal conversations Performs scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, maintenance, and incoming inspections (Safety, Performance, etc.) prior to installation and in accordance to schedules & appropriate protocols Provides impromptu in-services to equipment users and expedites shipment of equipment & parts to/from hospital for repair/replacement to reduce equipment downtime Efficiently uses available resources (tools, computer, supplies, and equipment, etc) and assists with ordering parts and supplies within budgetary objectives Ability to prioritize work load; recognizes work to be completed, partners with Manager to reach resolutions, identifies and participates with training of staff when operator errors are noted. Use accurate Personal Protective Equipment, infection control precautions, maintains test equipment, keeps work areas clean, conducts safety practices, universal precautions, and immediately reports any unsafe condition and repairs. Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of SMDA and how to use I Care. Maintains professional appearance and demeanor commensurate with company and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. and meets all performance indicator standards. Performs all tasks timely, in adherence to the departmental Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP), with opening and closing work orders, reporting to work, scheduled appointments, maintaining documentation, and record keeping. Qualifications Required Qualifications · 2-year Associates Degree in Electronics Technology or similar · 6 months experience in electronic, mechanical, or electro-mechanical repair in either a school or on-the-job setting. (Classroom time may count) License/Certification/Registration · Valid driver’s license Preferred Qualifications · 2-year Assoc. Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology and maintenance with supervised internship · Supervised internship or creditable experience in the maintenance and repair of clinical equipment. · Military experience within specialty associated with biomedical equipment repair.
