What You Will Do:
We are currently searching for a Biomedical Engineer with the NIH Clinical Center Biomedical section within the Materials Management Department.  This section performs many duties such as complies with security assessments and Hospital Accreditation Standards for medical equipment, corrects malfunctions on medical systems that have vital interrelated and disperse subsystems, evaluates products and systems for performance reliability, cost-effectiveness, serviceability, and feasibility for clinical and laboratory use; participate in the testing of systems, training of users, and writing of operator instructions or manuals, and services medical and patient care equipment such as patient ventilators, dialysis, defibrillators, physiological monitoring, ice makers, patient computers. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD.  

Work with staff on maintaining records of facility and equipment usage.Analyze, modify, plan, install, evaluate, certify, and correct system malfunctions.Maintain laboratory organization and assist in compliance with safety regulations.Use IT and engineering principles to interface between patient information systems and medical equipment.Maintain and update online protocols for equipment operation and microdevice fabrication.Design and develop biomedical equipment: Work with staff on assignments associated with utilizing biotechnology to improve and provide healthcare systems and devices; collaborate with researchers on system interfaces and design between multiple medical equipment manufacturers and where commercial equipment is unavailable or unacceptable.Coordinate the testing and analysis process: Manage the control and accountability of clinical and other in-scope related computerized equipment; maintain, repair, modify, fabricate, install and test electronic and mechanical components; evaluate alternative design approaches, with due consideration to material properties and machining capabilities, select best design approach to meet the specifications.Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, and photos to fabricate, manufacture, and/or repair using various power and hand tools, and other equipment.Test the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements:  complete unscheduled service orders for equipment to include calibration, electronic and mechanical repairs; work with staff on the installation and initial checkout of the finished equipment in the experimental environment; plan and execute modifications to make improvements as needed following initial use.


What You Will Need:

Bachelor’s DegreeAt least TWO (2) years of providing biomedical engineering support experience.Knowledgeable in biomedical functional areas such as laboratory operations or regulatory requirements.


What Would Be Nice To Have:

Experience in a hospital setting beneficial.
