If you are ready to join an international company with talent around the world, and want to make a real impact, we want you on our team. The Lubrizol Corporation is looking for highly motivated Biomedical Engineering students for our Operations Co-op Program to start in our program in the Spring or Summer 2025 semester.

 

What You'll Do:

Our program offers a range of locations and responsibilities. Each assignment will challenge you to build on the knowledge you gain in the classroom.  You will be exposed to a variety of assignments mainly focusing on Research and Development and Production Support. These core assignments are designed to develop you as a well-rounded engineer by exposing you to various departments and sites throughout the company.

 

Research and Development

This assignment will provide you with a basic understanding of the chemistry and processing of our Life Science Medical Polymers product lines. You will assist with R&D projects for new product development, applications testing and development, and more. This term is intended to give you a strong foundation in lab work, experiment design and data analysis, and technical communication. You will learn how to translate product chemistry into processing and application performance for our customers and develop a strong understanding of Lubrizol’s innovation pipeline for Lubrizol Life Sciences.

 

Production Support

While working in Production, you will assist the area engineers to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of one of our many production facilities. You will also work on a wide variety of process improvement projects including process optimization, safety improvements, new equipment start-up, and energy monitoring and improvements that will help the company by increasing capacity, improving processing, and reducing operating costs. You may also get involved in the capital project process which includes equipment or control system design, project estimation, installation, and start-up. This assignment will expose you to a wide variety of projects that will develop your troubleshooting and problem-solving skills while applying the knowledge you have learned in the classroom. This term can take place at several of our production facilities throughout the United States.

 

Other Available Terms

To provide a variety of opportunities for our co-ops, many other terms are available depending on student interest and business need. Previous additional terms have included Process Development, Quality, and Commercial opportunities. This is an excellent way to explore a diverse array of potential career paths and challenge yourself to try new roles while you are still in school.

 

Locations

Co-op terms in the Lubrizol Life Sciences division can span between Brecksville, OH; Corona, CA; Franklin, WI; Victor, MT; and Wilmington, MA. Brecksville houses the corporate offices of the Advanced Materials Division along with many labs and pilot plant facilities. Corona, Franklin, and Victor house our medical device and medical device component manufacturing and new product development capabilities. Our other sites offer manufacturing of various products in different markets.

 

 

Biomedical Engineering Co-ops may encounter a portion or all of the below physical requirements during their co-op rotations: 

Willing/able to work outdoors in inclement weather.  Presence of nuisance odors, noise, heavy machinery from chemical processes, testing/laboratories facilities.  Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements. These include but are not limited to; safety footwear, safety apparel, eye protection, hard hat, hearing protection, and respiratory protection.  Handle glassware and equipment for laboratory work.  Operation of equipment and/or handling of chemicals if/when properly trained. 

 

Co-ops often shadow operators. Physical requirements during this shadowing experience include: 

Able to work in a fixed position, standing or sitting, for long portions of the workday.  Completion of work hours on shift schedule; for example, swing shift, second shift, or third shift (maximum of 6 weeks per term)  Requires use of appropriate PPE to fulfill safety requirements.  Physically able to climb and work in elevated area (i.e., climbing and descending stairs repeatedly during shift). What We're Looking For: Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future.  Students who are interested in working in a medical materials or medical device manufacturing environment. Students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from an accredited university, with a graduation date between December 2026 through May 2029. Completion of two co-op terms is required, while three or more are strongly preferred. Co-op terms should be full time (40 hours per week), with one or more terms scheduled in the fall or spring semester. Students with GPA > 3.0 will be given priority consideration.

Full-time opportunities after graduation. Our engineering co-op program is an important vehicle for hiring full-time engineers at Lubrizol.
