Biomedical Equipment Technician I

JOB SUMMARY

\n

Under the direction of the Clinical Engineering Manager the Biomedical Equipment Technician I is accountable for installations, repairs, regular maintenance and calibration of most classes of medical equipment at the component level.

\n

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

\n\nPerform installations, regular maintenance, repairs and calibrations on assigned medical equipment to ensure their proper operation and function\nPerform all assignments in a competent and timely manner according to current policies and procedures\nInstall, repair and calibrate most classes of medical equipment at a component level\nPerform planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections as assigned\nUse diagnostic service software appropriate to the equipment being serviced\nAssist in the evaluation of new equipment, accessories and supplies\nInspect incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturers instructions\nWork with new hires and cross-trains on systems and equipment to ensure proper operation of equipment and techniques for testing, calibrating, operating and troubleshooting biomedical systems and equipment\nEstablish and maintains files of literature for each piece of medical equipment, such as the manufacturers technical literature, reference standards, specifications and other documents necessary to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies including TJC\nAccurately and legibly accounts for productive time using the departments computerized maintenance management system\nAssist with the administrative record keeping responsibilities of the department, such as work orders, maintenance history records, PM and safety inspection requests, and repair parts inventory; as well as any necessary reports to ensure accurate recording of activities for code and regulatory purposes\nProcess work requests and turn in completed work requests in a timely, results oriented and professional manner\nWith management approval, use the electronic system to order necessary parts, devices, etc. to properly repair or complete assigned work orders\nUse department hardware and software to electronically process and close work orders and PM assignments\nDocument time and expenses in a timely and accurate manner\nEnsure proper care of equipment and tools issued for maximum safety and productivity and adhere to all personal safety requirements\nDiligently maintain all tools and equipment in clean, safe, working order\nMaintain adequate inventory of related parts to perform assigned duties\nMaintain technical skills and required certifications to perform job duties\nAdhere to all safety requirements and wears the proper personal protective equipment required by the job\nRespond to emergency situations to ensure employee, patient and facility safety\nUphold overall safety in the department and report possible safety issues and recommends appropriate changes\nComply with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations\nDemonstrate an exceptional commitment to the philosophy and values of Scott and White (SW)\nMaintain friendly, efficient, positive customer service attitude toward customers, clients and co-workers and respond professionally to customer needs\nUnite and partner with the BSW leadership to advocate and meet the strategic goals of Baylor Scott & White Health\nAdhere to BSW and the service departments policies and procedures including appropriate attire and grooming\nWork to effectively meet and exceed the performance improvement goals set by the department and or BSW and all quality improvement targets\nWilling to serve on departmental and/or BSW committees or focus groups as requested and needed\nInteract in a friendly effective manner, builds relationships, and demonstrates a high level of cooperation and customer service\nCommunicate effectively with the Clinical Engineering manager and other Biomedical Equipment Technicians on a regular, formal and informal basis to discuss possible concerns with the Clinical Engineering department and/or any medical equipment\nPerform other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner\nAbility to participate in on-call rotation.\n\n

\n\nMaintains a safe driving record\nSolid knowledge of computerized systems: recordkeeping, PM, work order systems, timekeeping, etc.\n\n

QUALIFICATIONS

\n\nEDUCATION - Associate's Degree or 2 years of work experience above the minimum qualification\nEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of Experience\nCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION:\n\nDrivers License (TXDL): If moving from out of state must obtain valid TX DL within 90 days of hire.\n\n\n
