JOB SUMMARY

SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER NONEXEMPT POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title: BIOMEDICAL TECHNICIAN

BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of various types of medical equipment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Schedules the repair and maintenance of assigned medical equipment. Reads blueprints, plans, and documents to determine the requirements for equipment installation, operation, and repair. Installs new medical equipment. Repairs existing medical equipment. Performs timely preventative maintenance tasks and electrical safety checks on medical equipment. Maintains the computerized preventive maintenance system for all medical equipment and produces reports as required. Uses various types of test equipment to diagnose problems and verify the proper operation of medical equipment. Maintains test and repair equipment. Submits requests for maintaining a sufficient level of repair supplies for the timely completion of routine tasks. Works with equipment manufacturers and other vendors to obtain technical information and parts required for medical equipment repair and maintenance. Assists with the training of personnel on the use and operation of medical equipment. Keeps work areas clean, orderly, and safe. Maintains established department policies, procedures, and quality standards. Appropriately informs departmental management of any problems relating to medical equipment or with any other areas. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Two-year degree from an accredited college or equivalent institution in electronics technology, biomedical electronics, or an equivalent form of training.

BMET or CBET certification is preferred but not required.

Experience: Three (3) years of proven relevant biomedical or electronic experience, preferably in healthcare or related industry or a two-year degree from an accredited college or equivalent institution in electronics technology, biomedical electronics, or an equivalent form of training.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort (lift and carry up to 50 pounds).

Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing and sitting.

Pushes and pulls and/or moves and lifts heavy equipment and supplies.
