Biorepository Technician I
Job Title: Biorepository Technician IJob Description Support the inventory and distribution of clinical trial samples. Perform activities in support of daily sample management operations including inventory tracking, processing, distribution, storage, preparation, withdrawal, and destruction of biological samples. Responsible for clinical sample receipt, identification verification, processing, shipping and storage. Handle large volumes of sample shipments for multiple protocols and accurately prepare lab specimens for testing. Prioritize workload based on protocol and departmental needs, maintain an efficient and organized laboratory, manage supplies, and uphold quality control programs. Suggest and implement process improvements, utilize good judgment and independent problem-solving skills, ensure accurate storage of sample inventory using LIMS, and prepare sample aliquots and deliveries as required. Work closely with the manager to support sample pick-up, prepare samples for outbound shipments to central labs, organize and maintain quarantined sample distributions, and keep management informed of daily progress. Perform internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects under the guidance of the Clinical Samples Manager, understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures, and train and assist other employees in equipment, software, and processes of the biorepository. Responsibilities + Support the inventory and distribution of clinical trial samples. + Perform activities in support of daily sample management operations. + Responsible for clinical sample receipt, identification verification, processing, shipping, and storage. + Handle large volumes of sample shipments received for multiple protocols. + Accurately prepare lab specimens and containers for testing. + Prioritize workload based on the needs of various protocols and departments. + Maintain an efficient, well-organized laboratory and manage supplies. + Uphold quality control programs. + Suggest and implement process improvements. + Use good judgment and independent problem-solving skills. + Ensure accurate storage of sample inventory utilizing LIMS. + Prepare sample aliquots and make deliveries to clients as needed. + Support sample pick-up in coordination with the manager. + Prepare samples for outbound shipments to central labs for long-term storage. + Organize and maintain quarantined sample distributions for testing and returns. + Keep management informed of daily progress, including deviations from the norm. + Perform internal specimen consolidation and reorganization projects. + Understand and follow Standard Operating Procedures and equipment usage. + Train and assist other employees in biorepository equipment, software, and processes. Essential Skills + Minimum 6 months to 1 year of related work experience. + Some undergraduate biological science coursework or certificate preferred. + Experience with data entry, shipping/receiving, and sample management. + Knowledge of methods to handle, process, and store bio specimens using computerized storage and retrieval systems. + Understanding of Universal Precautions, general laboratory procedures, and quality assurance/control. + Effective communication skills, both verbally and in written form. + Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, and LIMS. + Ability to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, and hazardous agents. + Adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment. + Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs. + Capability to process and handle materials frozen on dry ice or liquid nitrogen for up to 6 hours per day. + Ability to use a computer for up to 6 hours per day. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Knowledge of Excel. + Experience in freezer repository and sample handling. + Experience with aliquoting and sample management. Work Environment The work environment consists of both lab and office settings. Employees must be able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, and hazardous and infectious agents. Personal protective equipment must be used, and safety protocols must be adhered to at all times. Employees should be prepared for marked changes in temperature and must be capable of handling frozen materials for extended periods.
