Job Description
This role coordinates specimen collection, processing, shipment, storage, management, and communication between clinical research project teams, the clinical lab, the clinical research unit, sponsors, and the research labs. Primary responsibilities include the collection, tracking, processing, and shipping of patient specimens for cancer clinical research trials. Specimen types include blood, bone marrow, urine, stool, and tissue biopsies.
ResponsibilitiesCoordinate specimen collection, processing, shipment, storage, and management.Communicate between clinical project teams, the clinical lab, the clinical research unit, sponsors, and the research labs.Manage schedules for sample collection on studies as appropriate.Process samples as required by each protocol.Coordinate transport of samples from the clinic to the research laboratory, or research laboratory to outside laboratory/sponsor.Ship samples per protocol requirements.Respond to email queries within the biospecimen team and with research teams.Keep track of status updates on patient visits and inform study teams when there are questions or obstacles in sample workflow.Keep team members updated.Unpack and accession research kits and laboratory supplies, monitor inventory, recycle expired kits, and place unused research kits back into circulation.Keep laboratory workspaces and storage spaces organized, maintain freezers and refrigerators.Maintain specimen inventory system(s) to ensure that the status of each sample is known and documented.Enter kit prep and processing data in LabVantage LIMS system.Record sample processing and shipping information in Microsoft Excel.Retrieve research study information from EPIC.Essential SkillsExperience working in a clinical setting handling biospecimen samples (blood, urine, etc.).Experience in preparing and processing of samples - packing and shipping.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma with 3+ years of hands-on experience working in a related role within a hospital setting.Associates Degree with 1+ years of hands-on experience working in a related role within a hospital setting (biospecimen processing, sample processing, phlebotomy, vet tech).BS degree with 0+ years of experience (will consider if looking to gain experience before med school).Work Environment
The work environment is primarily in the lab at the Perelman Cancer Center. The role may require going to the hospital, which is connected by a bridge, to pick up and drop off samples. There is also another lab on campus that may need to be visited from time to time.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $24.00
