Job Description
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Biospecimen Coordinator to join our dynamic laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the accurate receipt, sorting, and data entry of various biological specimens. This role requires experience in biological sciences, excellent data entry skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
ResponsibilitiesReceive, sort, and perform accurate data entry for all specimens entering the laboratory.Open packages to verify information on the requisition form with information on the collection container for accuracy.Capture data entry of specimen information into the computer databases (LIMS and Bioinventory).Enter necessary data/tracking accurately in multiple laboratory information management systems.Responsible for documentation within the electronic master file, including uploading/completing documents and using document exchange portals, and conducting completeness checks.Keep up with multiple project protocols and requirements.Examine specimens for adequacy for processing.Label and measure volumes for specimen samples.Meet key production metrics and quality measures to ensure samples are handed off for timely and accurate results based on the project.Properly take pictures of data on the outside of specimen containers for QC purposes.Pack and ship specimens to proper facilities when required.Properly store specimen samples when required.Assist clients and project managers with inquiries pertaining to specimen requirements and test turnaround times.Identify and document situations that may adversely impact sample integrity and notify management and project managers of the situation.Handle and dispose of medical and chemical waste.Properly sort and prepare all paperwork for scanning.Answer the loading dock door for incoming shipments and couriers.Perform administrative duties including filing paperwork and answering phones.Sanitize work stations.Work collaboratively with all members of the team and demonstrate respect for all colleagues.Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company procedures and policies.Essential SkillsBachelor's Degree in Biology or related field preferred.Strong data entry skills.Attention to detail.Comfortable with sample preparation, data entry, and specimen handling processes.Additional Skills & QualificationsPrevious medical/laboratory experience.Medical tech or medical assistant experience.Specimen collection, processing, handling, and labeling.Proficient with MS Office and Teams.Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.Outstanding organizational skills.Ability to perform to a high level of accuracy.Ability to handle biological materials.Comfortable handling human biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.Ability to lift up to 40lbs, work in protective equipment, and sit/stand for long periods of time.Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.High level of attention to detail with the ability to problem solve.Ability to work overtime when needed.Work Environment
Our facility has been at the forefront of biobanking, bioprocessing, and analytics since 1999. You will be working with incoming samples of saliva, DNA, blood, stool, urine, etc., in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment. This role requires wearing protective equipment and the ability to sit or stand for long periods. Join us and be part of a team contributing to critical health testing and research efforts.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00
