Biostatistician, Anesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology is currently seeking one Staff Biostatistician. The incumbent collaborates with clinical and research faculty members in the Department of Anesthesiology, as well as other investigators across the School of Medicine, on both clinical and basic science research projects. The biostatistician designs and performs reproducible statistical analyses, writes technical reports and interprets study results. The incumbent collaborates and supports research projects, providing status reports, and research publication and grant proposal support.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Collaborate with the senior biostatistician to support research teams within the department. This includes assisting in the design and planning of studies, executing and interpreting data analyses, and contributing to the publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Develop and prepare technical reports and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Prepare and deliver compelling presentations at research meetings to disseminate findings and advancements.

Actively participate in both research and broader team meetings to ensure alignment and foster collaborative efforts.

Provide comprehensive support as needed by the senior biostatistician to enhance project outcomes and departmental objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Masters’ degree in statistics, biostatistics, quantitative psychology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in and knowledge about working with large datasets and/or multi-site datasets.

Experience accessing, assembling, linking, organizing, cleaning, and analyzing large datasets.

Proficient in the use of the statistical software R, and experience in generating reproducible analyses

Proficiency in generating reproducible analysis reports that document statistical processes, interpret results, and discuss implications.

Skill in creating publication-ready figures to effectively highlight study findings.

Strong critical thinking skills with a detail-oriented approach.

Demonstrated ability to independently organize workload, set achievable goals, and adhere to deadlines.

Proven capacity to exercise sound judgment in making decisions aligned with broad research objectives.

An inquiring and open mind, conducive to innovative research and continuous learning.

Experience with manuscript writing and delivering presentations tailored to diverse audiences.

Physical Demands:

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA. Remote work possible with current position. However, occasional in-person meetings may be required.
