Biostatistician

Job Summary: The Biostatistician functions as a key member of multiple biomedical research teams, providing the expertise required to ensure appropriate rigor and reproducibility in study design, analysis and reporting. Participates in study design, including the development of objectives, sampling strategy, randomization and data collection procedures. Analyze data using appropriate statistical software, both standard and cutting-edge, including the reporting of results in formats appropriate for publication and grant applications. Assists with writing grant applications as well as the statistical results sections in reports or publications.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Ph.D, DrPH or ScD Degree in biostatistics, overall statistics, applied statistics or related fields required. Minimum five years of experience performing statistical analysis required. Experience in collaborating with and supporting NIH-funded investigators strongly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of statistical package(s) such as R, SAS, SPSS, and STATA.  Prepare tables and graphs, transfer data among a variety of formats and remain current with statistical software and hardware requirements. Apply statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize numerical data in an academic research environment. Design analytic statistical approaches to non-standard situations and use knowledge of statistical analysis as it applies research outcomes.  Read, write legibly, and speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)..  Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction.  Think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision.  Distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.
