Birth Registrar
Job Details:

The Birth Registrar is responsible for coordinating all activities relating to the completion and filing of birth certificates with the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) via electronic transmission within required time frames and according to state guidelines.

 Responsibilities: 

• Assists with distribution and collection of birth packets to new moms.

 • Abstracts needed information. 

• Electronically completes birth certificates within 5 business days of birth according to state regulations. 

• Prepares and provides completed certificates to the physicians for signatures. 

• Submits Parentage Papers to the state. • Makes needed corrections to submitted certificates as directed by the Office of Vital Records and Town. 

• Submits congenital malformations data to the state.

 • Assists with arranging for delivery of completed birth certificates to the Town, when needed.

 • Interacts positively with patients/families to ensure accuracy of information on birth certificates.

 • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients serviced on their assigned unit. (Indirect care.)

 • Notifies Supervisor of issues or problems in a timely manner. 

• Completes assigned tasks in appropriate time frames and adjusts to variation in workload. 

• Effectively uses automated systems to perform work assignments. 

• Performs other department duties as required. 

Qualifications/Requirements:

Experience: General office experience and data entry skills required; experience in a health care setting preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalency required.
