Obtain accurate appointment and financial information to create financial accounts. Must maintain excellent rapport with physician's offices and ancillary departments. Responsibilities Responsible to answer all incoming calls within 30 seconds. Schedulers should maintain a volume of 8 calls an hour. Obtain demographic information (Last name, first name and date of birth ) to correctly identify patients being scheduled. Use additional identifiers when necessary. Accurately input all information in the electronic medical record system. Pre-register patients by obtaining insurance information and verifying eligibility. Demonstrates proficiency with scheduling guidelines and departmental protocols. Obtain accurate appointment/reason for visit information. Use scheduling matrix when applicable to assure patients are scheduled in appropriate time frame. Advise patients of scheduled appointment and arrival time. Provide patients of directions to selected office location when necessary. Communicate same day add on appointments directly to office coordinator and/or staff. Responsible to attend 90% of department staff meeting, read all staff meeting minutes, attend all applicable educational offerings , open and read e-mails daily to keep abreast of changes and updates. Responsible to bring to the attention of office coordinator or manager (following chain of command) all scheduling issues and patient concerns. Ability to multi-task between heavy call volume, multiple computer systems and frequent interruptions. Must be able to rapidly change priorities to address current need of department. Must effectively adjust to change, prioritize duties as necessary, handle stress and address current needs of the department. Must consistently communicate with a high level of courtesy and professionalism to providers, staff and patients. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Two years Hospital setting or physician's office experience. Knowledge of Medical terminology and basic anatomy. Prior scheduling , patient accounts, unit clerk or medical assistant experienced preferred. High school graduate or equivalent.
