BMT Laboratory Technician
Summary: Implements procedures and protocols according to established Clinical Stem Cell laboratory guidelines, maintains records and equipment. Education: Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in laboratory science or Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and extensive related experience is required. In addition, a Rhode Island State license and ASCP license is also desirable. Experience: Minimum of three years of advanced laboratory experience Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Standard laboratory working conditions. May be exposed to bacterial and /or viral pathogens from the routine handling of patient and/or clinical specimens. May be exposed to noxious reagents from the routine handling of laboratory chemicals. Adherence to safety guidelines will minimize risk. Must meet annual safety training requirements per hospital policy. Interrelationships: Must devleop and maintain positive relationships across all areas of responsibility, including patients and their family memebers, co-workers of the BMTP, hospital employees outside of the BMTP. and technical and non-technical personnel outside of the hospital environment. Must coordinate the collection and processing of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells internally with the physicians and staff of the BMTP, as well as externally with the nurses and staff of the Rhode Island Blood Center. Must interact with hospital clincial laboratory personnel regarding hematopoetic progenitor stem cell analysis. Must interact with equipment and supply vendors, and technical support representatives, regarding establishment and maintenance of service contracts, procurement of laboratory supplies, and technical support and training.
