Board Mill Technical Assistant
The Opportunity: You will be responsible for tracking and increasing the productivity of the department, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical equipment, assisting the Engineering Department in the design, installation, and the startup of new equipment, covering weekend call for the Board Mill team, training as a relief shift foreman, and filling that role as needed, collecting, and analyzing daily operational Key Performance Indicators, and supporting/executing trials for chemicals and equipment. You will report to the Board Mill Manager. How you will impact Smurfit WestRock: * Be engaged in safety improvements and support and interact with crews to address safety concerns as needed. Participate in crew safety meetings and reduce area exposure risks in the department. * Troubleshooting equipment and processes. Understand the equipment operation to aid in the identification of problems, repair, and optimization of the system. * Train as a shift foreman. Understand the contract, be able to lead a crew, be responsible for the crew\u2019s performance, and fill the shift foreman\u2019s position as needed. * Investigate alternative equipment and process design. Seek alternatives to improve the safety, environmental performance, reliability, production, and improve productivity of the processes. * Provide assistance in developing capital and expense budgets for the department. * Track, analyze, optimize, and report on Key Performance Indicators for the Board Machine and Market Pulp Dryer. You will do this on an hourly, daily, and monthly basis. * Be able to create PI reports, navigate and utilize PI for process analysis, and support supervisors to grow their use of the PI system. Will be proficient in Excel, Gannt charting, Power Point, and Word. * Support the area team with the use of CPRO (trial documentation) and MOC process documentation (process changes). What you need to succeed: * Four-year Technical college degree with minimum of 3 to 5 years\u2019 job experience (i.e., Engineering degree, Pulp & Paper Science degree or similar science degree) * Fundamental understanding of mill processes affecting Paper Mill operations. * Good oral and written communications skills, highly skilled in group communication as well as one to one communication. Ability to determine effective and appropriate means of communication.
