At General Motors, we are looking for a hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions to join our Body Control Calibration team! Calibration engineers work with vehicles, software, and algorithms to design and release Body Control Module (BCM)/External Lighting Module (ELM) calibrations to meet customer designs and performance requirements. They support the lead calibrator and software strategist, as well as stakeholders including the members of the vehicle platform, hardware, manufacturing plant and quality team. This is a critical role that ensures the integration to vehicles performs at world class levels to meet program objectives and industry regulations.
The Opportunity:
The successful Body Controls Calibration Engineer candidate will be responsible for learning and executing the best practices and procedures for releasing calibrations in the body domain. You will be learning to manage multiple projects and deadlines, and a specific vehicle system/component in the body domain with support from Lead Calibration Engineers and Tech Specialists.
Hybrid Role: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location (Warren, MI) three times per week (Tue., Wed., Thurs.), at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.
Some travel may be required, primarily to Michigan/Ontario and other locations in the US and Canada.
Job Responsibilities:
Follow documented procedures to calibrate systems to meet product goals and provide feedback for continuous improvement (Calibration Bill of Materials - CALBOM).
Develop Body Controls Configuration/Performance Calibrations for deployment to GM Vehicle Programs.
Investigate and research calibration settings based on CALBOM notes.
Support requirements development with other activities to determine part proliferation.
Author Engineering Change Requests (ECR).
Upload calibration bundle(s) for push to VeSCom.
Support root cause analysis.
Ability to efficiently capture and analyze empirical data.
Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices.
Identify and document calibration vulnerabilities; track corrective actions.
Attend software VSE meetings (Controls Manager) and report back timing.
Additional Job DescriptionRequired Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related Engineering degree.
Minimum of 2 years of technical and/or manufacturing engineering experience.
Experience with data acquisition and analysis on complex problems.
Some knowledge of vehicle systems.
Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate test vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science in Engineering
Experience with in-vehicle testing, and/or calibration including use of tools (ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/VSPY, etc.) for data acquisition and analysis.
Experience with scripting (Matlab, Python, etc.) for making processes more efficient.
Automotive OEM experience.
