Bookmark this Posting Print Preview | Apply for this Job Position Details Position Information Position Title Bookstore Cashier Level I-IV (Part Time, Temporary Hourly, Non-Benefited) Classification Title Temporary PT Hourly Hourly rate, Stipend, or Load Unit $14.70 - $15.84/hr Close Date Position Type/Employee Class Temporary PT Hourly Instructor Status Not applicable Overtime Eligible Non-Exempt FLSA Status Campus Location Bend Primary Purpose The Bookstore Cashier position assists with the day-to-day operations of the bookstore, operates cash registers; performs associated cashiering duties, and provides customer service to staff, students and college visitors. Assists other bookstore staff with projects, as needed. Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities + Operate computerized cash register system. + Balance cash, checks and daily receipts. + Greet customers and provide customer service, both in person and on the phone. + Assist regular staff with stocking food and beverage, merchandise and textbooks, as needed. + Assist customers with pulling and purchasing their required course materials from the textbook area. Department Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies. + Visual ability to read price tag information. Ability to read the English language sufficient to read customer checks, customer identification, the computer screen, and other similar written materials. + Basic English language writing skills for completion of payment processing, customer checks, and paperwork involved in balancing the cash register. + Basic mathematical skills, including addition and subtraction, necessary to verify cash register functions, balance cash register, make change, and assist with inventory counts. + Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times and exercise a high level of professionalism, tact and diplomacy. + Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience. + Sufficient manual dexterity in at least one hand to be able to operate all cash registers and electronic equipment and manually complete paperwork; and to unload, price, and stack merchandise. + Ability to communicate with others using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter. + Visual ability, corrected, to enable the cashier to observe at a distance of 30 yards and to verify customer identification and read computer monitor and cashiering forms at close range. + Willingness to work scheduled hours as required during the seasons of rush, finals, and other seasonally peak periods. Ergonomic Requirements Regular hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm, 6pm on Wednesdays, during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities. Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. Minimum Requirements Minimum Requirements: + High School diploma or GED completed or in progress, or equivalent work experience Bookstore Cashier II 2 terms of work experience as a Bookstore Cashier I Bookstore Cashier III 2 terms of work experiences as a Bookstore Cashier II Bookstore Cashier IV 2 terms of work experience as a Bookstore Cashier III Equivalency Statement The College recognizes the value of skills and knowledge gained outside of formal higher education and paid employment.
