Overview PepsiCo is a major food enterprise sourcing a variety of raw materials of agricultural origin such as tuber, grain, and fruit & vegetable crops around the world. A creative, results-oriented data analyst is required to operationalize data flows and processes in PepsiCo’s breeding programs at a PepsiCo breeding facility in Rhinelander, WI. This data analyst is responsible for implementing data workflows and operationalizing a breeding software for the breeding program. This position will work closely with existing breeders, assistant breeders, and technicians to collect, curate, analyze, and store data generated in the breeding program. This data is generated internally with external partners. The position sits in the Agro Raw Materials Discovery function within PepsiCo foods R&D. This position is located at the PepsiCo research facility in Rhinelander, WI and will report to the breeders on site. Responsibilities Establish and lead implementation of standardized data workflows and processes in the potato and oat breeding programs. Ensure centralization and interconnectivity of data to enable usability by the breeding teams. Work with the breeders, assistant breeders, and other technicians to lead the implementation of a breeding software for the oat and potato breeding programs. Work with the breeders, assistant breeders, and other technicians to gather, collect, curate, and quality control incoming data. Ensure data pipelines are working and data is flowing consistently. Support specific projects for high throughput phenotyping where system implementation and data flows need to be established. Continuously identify opportunities for improving efficiency and quality of breeding operations, including efficiencies in processes, techniques, and flow. Support the potato and oat breeding programs with help during busy seasons of planting, harvesting, phenotyping, seed packing, etc… Comply with local HSE requirements including, but not limited to, prevention, incident reporting, and remedial actions. Adapt to unexpected delays and changes in workflows to maintain overall productivity. Compensation and Benefits: The expected compensation range for this position is between $55,800 - $87,000. Location, confirmed job-related skills, experience, and education will be considered in setting actual starting salary. Qualifications BS preferred in Data Science, Statistics, Biological Systems Engineering, Plant Breeding, Horticulture, Agronomy, Biology, or related discipline and 2-3 years relevant work experience with data handling, manipulation, or breeding software use. Demonstrated experience collecting, curating, manipulating, and analyzing data for consistency and quality. Working knowledge of computer coding and/or statistics software Python and R. Preferred knowledge of Unix and high-performance computing. Preferred experience with genomics, genetics, bioinformatics, variant calling, genomic selection, statistical genetics. Experience with relational databases, data uploading, front-end and back-end use of SQL databases. Attention to details and accurate record keeping. Ability to organize multiple projects, and drive for results in any situation. Demonstrated ability to manage activities within assigned resources/budgets. Can quickly separate the mission-critical from the nice-to-dos and the trivial; quickly senses what's the next most useful thing to work on; focuses on the critical few tasks that really add value and puts aside or delays the rest. Excellent communication and networking ability with the local PepsiCo community and the remote team. A proven ability to work closely with colleagues on activities with a high degree of flexibility and comfort with change. Ability to be an ambassador of change and to build consensus among others who can enable activities and projects at the local facility. Ability to balance need to deliver[G{1] on time, on target, within resources, and with expected quality and quantity. Requirements: This position will be based in Rhinelander, WI and must be willing to travel occasionally to off-site experiment locations or to the main team site in St. Paul, MN at the University of Minnesota agricultural campus. Must be willing to travel 10-15% of the time primarily in North America, by land or air. Must be willing to flex work schedule to accommodate video and phone conferences across multiple time-zones as an alternative to travel. Must be able to operate in hot and wet/dry environments such as greenhouses and walk-in growth chambers, to work with plants, soil, and agricultural/science equipment, and to lift safely up to 50 LBS of weight.
