Bridge Coating Inspector

Your Opportunity

Your role is to work under general supervision and direction of a Construction Manager on bridge repair projects throughout Clarke, Fredrick and Warren County Virginia year-round.  These projects vary in size and complexity and the primary role is a full-time bridge coating inspector. 

Your Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for daily inspection efforts of all phases of highway construction and maintenance projects under the general supervision of senior or supervisory staff, ensuring coatings are in accordance with plans and specification.  Additional responsibilities include: 

Monitor and inspect the work of Contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for bridge structure coatings under the direction of the Construction Manager. Monitors and inspects the Contractor’s coating operations to ensure compliance with contract documents. Schedules work and inspection phases with contractor’s superintendent and agency personnel. Advises contractors of violations and recommends adjustments to operations. Takes field measurements of pay items Maintains daily work reports. Complete destructive and non-destructive testing as necessary for inspections Perform and document required materials testing Read and interpret Structure and Bridge plans and specification

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Basic skills in math, drafting, and science. Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation. Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite. Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team. Effectively communicates project issues with contractor, project team and clients. Previous experience in bridge repair or construction is desirable Must possess the industry certification for NACE Coating Technician Level II (https://www.ampp.org/education/education-resources/courses-by-program/coating-inspector-program)

Education and Experience

High school diploma/certificate with a minimum of 2-7 years of related work experience.  More experience individuals are also desirable.  Pay will be commensurate with experience. 

Position will primarily require field work which may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
