ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Raleigh, NC office is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Transportation team.

Responsibilities 

Perform structural design and modeling of highway and/or railroad bridges, transit and rail stations, and ancillary structures, Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates and calculation packages Provide technical support/mentorship to structural engineering staffPerform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, etc. Perform field inspections as necessary for development of bridge rehabilitation plans and specifications

Must possess strong technical skills in bridge/structural design and critical thinking Excellent attention to detail and quality Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Self-motivated and collaborativeAbility to thrive in a team environmentExperience with and motivation to lead and mentor junior staff

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. Civil Engineering (structural emphasis preferred) 5-8 years of professional bridge design experience Licensed PE requiredPossess an understanding of completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and proceduresStrong familiarity with any of the following structural engineering software (i.e. Mathcad, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, AASHTOWare, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, LEAP Steel and/or Concrete, etc.)Model-based design experience is a strong plus:Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads

Preferred Qualifications

8-11 years of structural bridge design experience Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures (1-2 years of experience can be substituted for a Master’s degree)
