Job Summary
The Bridge Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, adjusting, testing and maintaining all electrical and communication work on bridges, including bridge programmable logic controllers and navigation lights.
Major Responsibilities Perform prescribed bridge duties anywhere on the Illinois Central (IC) Railroad System, including Chicago Central and Pacific (CCP) territory Carry out all electrical and communication work on bridgesWorking Conditions The role is primarily performed outdoors in various types of weather and environmental conditionsThe role requires regular travel (20 to 30%) to IC and CCP system territories and beyond the Chicago Terminal and Elgin, Joliet & Eastern (EJ&E) ZonesThe incumbent has a regular work week from Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm, and weekends when necessaryRequirements Electrical experience with design, installation, construction, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems including 480volt 3-phase powerLicense issued by the Federal Communications Commission of the grade General Radiotelephone Operator or a license issued by the National Association of Business and Educational Radio of the grade Certified TechnicianOperator license qualifying the incumbent to operate a highway vehicleIdentifies risks and anticipates impacts to ensure a safe and secure environmentFollows safety procedures, information security instructions and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles to lead by exampleAddresses risksShares informationCollaborates with othersSolves problems using analytical thinkingResponds with agilityWritten and oral examination
What We Offer
Paid Training
Successful candidates will take part in a paid 3-week training program at a CN Campus (Homewood, IL) with additional on-the-job training to help ensure that they have received the adequate knowledge to operate in accordance with regulatory requirements and CN’s safety standards. The training is primarily on health and safety rules as successful completion of the classroom and on-the-job training is required to continue employment as a Track Maintainer at CN.
