FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

WTTG/WDCA – Broadcast Engineer (Per Diem Part-Time)

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is part of Fox Corporation and Fox Television Stations, world leading and valued media brands, airing the most hours of original programming in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia local television market. At FOX 5 DC we are our own independent work community. We work in a fast-paced culture where teamwork, ideas, and input are critical. We are seeking a Broadcast Engineer to support the operation of our ST 2110 IP facility. IT Network Engineers with some broadcast experience may be considered for this role.

JOB HIGHLIGHTS:

Support an ST 2110 media network running on Arista network switchesWork with Lawo VSM, SMART, Arista Cloudvision and other toolsMaintain complex broadcast systems and equipment such as cameras, production switchers, graphics systems, non-linear editing systems, cloud-based systems, intercom, production audio consoles, ENG equipment, etc.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

Hands-on experience working in a television facilityExperience providing technical support for production video and broadcast operationsExperience with IP routing & workflowsGeneral understanding of the SMPTE 2110 suite of standardsAbility to troubleshoot computer and network-based systemsAbility to read technical drawings and follow signal flowsStrong analytical, reasoning, and technical troubleshooting skillsSit and stand for an extended period; must be able to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneelAbility to take direction and work under deadline pressureMust be organized, creative, and detail-orientedStrong sense of urgencyFriendly and collaborativePositive attitude and good judgmentAbility to work independently and as part of a cohesive team

Bachelor's degree, preferred focus in electrical engineering or computer science or related fieldArista or Cisco certification, Arista CloudVisionExperience maintaining a television transmitterSpecific expertise with Chyron graphics, Sony production switchers, Lawo control systems, VxRail or other VM servers and storage systemsKnowledge of Microsoft tools, including MS VisioAutocad experienceExperience with SNMP servers

FOX 5 DC / FOX 5 Plus is a 24/7 operation. Candidates must have flexibility in scheduling evenings, early mornings, weekends as well as work all shifts in a 24/7/365 breaking news environment. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and varied hours. Must have a clean motor vehicle record (MVR) and be willing to obtain a valid driver’s license. Candidate will also be required to join the I.A.T.S.E Local 819 union.

Our studios air the most hours of news each week throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding areas with a viewing audience that is unmatched. FOX 5 is surrounded by a restaurant scene offering cuisines from around the world, boutiques, outdoor markets and so much more! The Bethesda Metro station is just steps away. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $50.36-55.40 per hour. We provide Freelancers medical/dental/vision insurance and 401k after they meet eligibility criteria and any State required time-off, in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
