BSMART Access Counselor

The hours are Monday/Wednesday/Friday 8a-430p and one 12 hour shift on another day.

Function/General Purpose of PositionThe primary responsibility of the BSMART Counselor is to assist the ER physician and on-call psychiatrist with the assessment and disposition of patients who present with a psychiatric illness in the Emergency Room setting.The primary responsibility of the Access Responder is to provide confidential screening via telephone for psychiatric, behavioral and chemical dependency problems to Access center callers, including the person in crisis, a friend or family member, or referring professional. Responsible for managing all aspects of screening, triage, and referral services for the Access center, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention, assessment, referral and admission service. Employee provides continuity of care by assisting unit in admissions/discharges and overall flow.

II. Employment Qualifications

Master’s degree in social work or counseling.Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Professional Counselor (LPC) preferred.Work requires two years of demonstrated experience working with patients who have psychiatric illness, chemical dependency issues, and case management experience.Knowledge of abnormal psychology and mental health problems.Knowledge of appropriate clinical screening and interventions with patients.Ability to effectively interact with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socioeconomic classes, and with those in crisis or who are resistant or negative towards intervention.Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and their families,Demonstrates a high level of communication, organizational skills, and assessment skills and is able to work independently.Demonstrates knowledge of the utilization review process.Many of our opportunities reward* your hard work with:
