Job Description


The Vessel Captain is responsible for directing activities of the vessel including operation, maintenance, safety, personnel, and production and allocates resources to accomplish these goals.


Essential Job Functions


● Coordinate movement of dredge to job sites and dry dockings

● Ensure that personnel aboard the dredge are properly trained and supervised in their respective duties

● Completes and submits daily, weekly and monthly reports to Operations Manager including personal and property accident reports

● Prepare and submit weekly payroll timesheets

● Requisition parts and supplies as needed to maintain inventory

● Conduct weekly safety meetings and fire and boat drills 

● Complete Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and/or Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA)

● Responsible for maintenance and inspection of safety, firefighting, and lifesaving equipment

● Coordinate dredge operations with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers inspector and other officials who frequent the dredge during operations

● Participate in inspections of the dredge performed by various government agencies

● Research and discuss with the Project Engineer, dredging strategizes to maximize production


Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes 


Qualifications


● 10+ years of experience with marine or offshore platforms preferred

● Working knowledge of Duty Cycle Crane operations, functions, and maintenance

● Working knowledge of ship operations related to regulatory compliance with USCG, ABS, and EPA

● Working knowledge of a Safety Management System per ISM Code

● Ability to research, analyze, and interpret OSHA, USCG, EPA, and USACE regulations

● Proficient skills in standard office software packages

● Supervisory experience preferred

● Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation

● Willingness and ability to travel and work a 14 and 7 rotational schedule

● This position requires fluent use of the verbal and written English language 


Required Certifications/Licenses


• Valid Driver’s license with a clean record

• TWIC – Transportation Worker Identification Credential



Physical Requirements


● Must be able to pass pre-employment physical.

● Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels

● Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend, or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.

● Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies, and parts, up to 50 lbs. unassisted
