Summary Statement
Boise Urban Garden School (BUGS) teaches youth and adults the fundamentals of gardening through science, nutrition, and environmental-based lesson plans and activities.
BUGS Lead Culinary Instructor:
+ Designs and delivers nutrition and culinary curriculum in a class setting.
+ Manages kitchen pantry and food preservation tasks with the culinary team.
+ This position works evenings and weekends.
+ This position is open to all applicants age 19 and older.
+ This position is designated as At-Will.
Essential Functions
Works with supervisor to develop and implement appropriate culinary and nutrition curriculum. Manages food preservation tasks and stocking the pantry. Instructs culinary students and ensures the well-being of participants. Works with supervisor and culinary team to ensure equipment, materials, and supplies are prepared and in good working order.
Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.
Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ 1 year of culinary experience
Knowledge of:
+ effective instructional techniques.
Ability to:
+ deal with children, adults, and coworkers in a friendly and tactful manner;
+ work varied hours including evenings and weekends;
+ display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public, and other organizations;
+ communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance;
+ complete assignments in a timely fashion;
+ understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations;
+ maintain prompt and regular attendance; and
+ perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ 2 years of experience working in a class setting with students of all ages from various cultural and economic backgrounds.

Applicants must be able to pass:
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety- sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.
This position is required to work directly with and oversee minors in the absence of their parent or guardian, or work directly with and oversee vulnerable adults in the absence of their caretaker or guardian.

Physical Efforts
While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, reach, grasp, climb and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.
Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions.
19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
