Building Automation Controls Technician

General Summary

As a controls technician, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining the building automation systems and equipment in the hospital premises, such as HVAC, lighting, etc. using hand and power tools. You will also work with computer software and hardware, such as controllers, sensors, actuators, and networks. You will need to read and follow codes, standards, and regulations, program and calibrate devices, monitor, and optimize system performance, and troubleshoot and resolve issues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Install, calibrate, and maintain pneumatic control systems in accordance with engineering specifications. Perform routine inspections to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems. Diagnose and repair faults in pneumatic control systems, including valves, actuators, sensors, and other related components. Collaborate with other team members to identify and resolve complex issues. Conduct testing and calibration of pneumatic devices to ensure accurate and efficient system performance. Implement adjustments to optimize control processes and enhance overall system functionality. Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and maintenance activities. Create documentation for troubleshooting procedures and system configurations. Work closely with engineers, electricians, and other technicians to integrate pneumatic control systems with other control and automation systems. Provide technical support and guidance to other team members. Adhere to safety protocols and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Stay informed about industry standards and best practices related to pneumatic control systems.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent Valid controls technician certification Minimum 5 years of experience as a control’s technician in a commercial or institutional setting Knowledge of controls techniques, tools, materials, and codes Ability to read and follow codes, standards, and regulations Ability to install, repair and maintain various types of building automation systems and equipment Ability to work with computer software and hardware Ability to program and calibrate devices, monitor, and optimize system performance Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues Ability to work independently and as part of a team Ability to lift and carry heavy objects Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Ability to communicate effectively with staff, contractors, and vendors

Work Environment

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions. Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
