Building Automation Systems Procurement Manager

Position Title: Procurement Manager Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States. With preference given to those in ATL area. JOB SUMMARY The Procurement Manager is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies to support the company's national building automation and controls projects. This role focuses on identifying and onboarding new electrical contractors (ECs) in various regions, managing ongoing EC relationships, developing national EC partnerships, and supporting the expansion of vendor options for labor and materials procurement. Additionally, the Procurement Manager will assist with estimating, licensing compliance, and vendor selection strategies to enhance project execution and efficiency. The Procurement Manager will report to the Smart Tech & Contracting Director and will work closely with project managers, estimators, and technical leads to ensure that procurement activities align with project and company objectives. This role requires strong negotiation skills, strategic sourcing experience, and a deep understanding of licensing and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. The Procurement Manager will be self-directed on day-to-day work and receives high level instruction on new projects, tasks or assignments. Will execute and lead teams and projects, tasks or assignments of complex scope. May coordinate activities of other personnel. This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Procurement Strategy & Vendor Management (40%) + Identify, evaluate, and onboard new electrical contractors in different cities to support ongoing and upcoming projects. + Maintain and manage a national EC database, fostering strong relationships for repeat partnerships. + Develop strategic partnerships with systems integrators (SIs) in key markets, ensuring alignment with business goals. + Establish alternative (Plan B, C) vendor options for panel shop services as the company scales. + Implement strategies to mitigate the risk of subcontractors bypassing the company and engaging directly with general contractors or clients. + Establish and manage vendor relationships and ongoing negotiated pricing for BAS materials (e.g. field devices, instrumentation and control valves) Proposal and Estimating Support (30%) + Assist the estimating and proposal teams during peak periods to ensure timely and competitive bid submissions. + Provide insights on labor and material procurement costs, challenges, and regional specifics to improve estimating accuracy. + Support the preconstruction phase by identifying cost-effective procurement solutions and evaluating vendor proposals. + Collaborate with project managers and engineers to gather detailed technical requirements for accurate estimating. + Review subcontractor and supplier bids to identify the most cost-effective and reliable options National Procurement & Licensing Compliance (20%) + Develop procurement processes that account for regional variations in costs, labor laws, and licensing requirements. + Ensure compliance with national and state-specific regulations, including electrical low voltage licensing and general contractor (GC) licensing. + Liaise with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to verify licensing requirements and streamline the approval process. + Maintain up-to-date knowledge of procurement best practices, industry trends, and regulatory changes. Process Improvement & Strategic Sourcing (10%) + Continuously refine procurement processes to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. + Explore opportunities for national-level EC agreements to enhance consistency and reliability across projects. + Collaborate with leadership to implement procurement tracking tools and reporting mechanisms. + Develop vendor evaluation criteria to ensure high-quality partnerships. Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned Requirements POSITION REQUIREMENTS (ADVANCED LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING) + Knowledge of contracts / subcontracts and review process + Knowledge of BAS, EPMS, ICT and role in overall construction projects + Strong knowledge of procurement practices in the construction, building automation, and controls industry. + Experience with vendor management, contract negotiation, estimating, and preconstruction activities. + Understanding of licensing and compliance requirements across multiple states, including electrical low voltage and GC licensing. + Proficiency in procurement software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), and tracking tools. + Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills to manage vendor relationships effectively. + Ability to develop and implement strategic sourcing plans, balancing cost efficiency and quality. + Strong analytical skills to assess procurement challenges, develop solutions, and optimize vendor partnerships. + Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage multiple procurement processes simultaneously. + Self-motivated and proactive with the ability to work independently in a remote environment. + Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction mission critical, commercial buildings, or other structures + Proficient understanding of the company's objectives + In-depth knowledge of organizational procedures and guidelines + Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail + Basic to intermediate ability to align departmental plans with company strategy + Proficient in mediating disputes and fostering a positive work environment + Competent in leading a team and motivating members towards common goals + Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace. + Ability to identify and analyze complex problems, evaluate alternatives and implement effective solutions. + Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence + Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information) + Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with little supervision + Ability to work under pressure and meet close deadlines + Ability to effectively plan and delegate the work of others PHYSICAL DEMANDS The following physical demands must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
